MB Diesel's question before I buy 1
 

The diesel I could buy has to have all the latest smog/soot reduction equipment, I am not sure if the MB have a catalitic converter as well as a trap oxidizer.
What is the difference between the 87 MBs and the 1998 VW diesel's.
I ahve read some articles but can'tmake complete sense of it.
Is there a MB diesel that has the latest smog stuff.
I will bemoving to Chile and the smog in santiago is so bad that the old diesels are not allowed, I did see the late model Citroen, Fiat and Peugeot diesels around but who wants that crap when you acn drive a Mercedes.
