‘84 300SD totaled – all parts available

My family car was rear-ended a couple of weeks ago, as me and my 2-year old son were going to Wal-Mart to drop the used motor oil.

The SD is (was) exceptional. No rust; no engine or transmission leaks. 219k miles on the car; I have all records for the past 5 years, during which I drove the car for 70k miles. 3k oil changes; 15k all other fluid/filter changes. The interior, including the visors, door panels, etc, are immaculate. Astral Silver exterior, with navy blue interior.

The following parts are new dealer parts during the last year:

Cruise switch
Turn Signal Switch
Rear Springs and pads
Driver window regulator
Both front window motors
Upper front control arms (left and right)
Coolant expansion tank

The headlights are Depo and new in the last year (I also have 2 sets of US assemblies, if anyone is interested)

The shocks are Bilstein and new with in the last year.

All other parts are as pictured.

First come, first serve; please email me with needs or questions.

Thanks.

What the heck hit you, a semi? Did you sustain any injuries? Glad you and your son are okay.

A Ford Contour hit us.

We walked away (which should be expected in the MB); not sure that the gal that hit us in her Ford contour was so lucky. Anyway, I strapped the car seat in the midlle of the tow truck that night and the driver took us home.

Wow Paul,
I'm glad yall were OK! Looks like it was an upper-percentile 126. I'm so sorry that happened. I have a 123 so not much for me to get, I just wanted to say the above.
Good luck
Jimmy L

**edit**
By the way, that should have destroyed the Contour!

Need some parts

Paul I am interested in the following items:
-the driver interrior door panel - entire panel (my wood is nice but need the vinyl where my elbow rests when holding wheel-it is worn)
-plastic trim over top of doors under the weather stripping (all doors except driver's)
-weather stripping from each door and trunk
-coolant expansion tank!!
-rear bilstein shocks and rear springs with pads
-the dash if not cracked
-cruise control amp if not surging
-wood in center console and driver side center console window switch
-ignition buzzer
-cover over spare tire if not broken in wreck
-trunk carpet
-tire lug wrench tool
-hood star that stands up
-the driver's sun visor with lighted vanity
-possibly the two front seats if they are power seats (mine are power but driver seat needs upholstery and yours are different so would need both).
-driver's floor mat
-euro headlight switch with vacuum level control and bezel

Glad you and your son where not hurt. My daughter who is 2 rides in my 300sd all the time. She has affectionately named it "Hookie Car." She loves my car as much as I do.

I'm so sorry to hear about your car. What a beautiful specimen. I hope your insurance company takes care of you and I'm glad to hear you walked away from this one.

I'm in need of:

Facia around ignition key
Chrome trim on trunk (all emblems and trunk lid handle, mine are gold and must be replaced)
Hood star with base (mine is also gold, ugh)
Driver headlight door (I just broke mine breaking some ice)
There is a row of six electrical vacuum switches to the right of the radio (remove the right side of the console to get at)
Temperature control module (by right dashboard vent at passenger knee. Include part of harness if you can)

Thanks,
mike.lafleur@sbcglobal.net

Hey,
I'm very glad to hear you and your family are OK. Sorry about the car too but it did you good, you walked away!

Could I have the Instrument Cluster? How much would you want for parts?
How about the shocks? I could really use them.
How is the driver seat spring? I could use that too and the inside drivers side door handle/arm rest.

I feel kinda bad about taking advantage of your misfortune but you offered! I hope your insurance takes care of you.

Thanks

Danny

Parts

That really a shame both for you and the car.
Are you pulling out the small stuff?
I could use the two seat control switches, sunroof switch, front mats and maybe even the radio.
Let me know.

Both lower control arms, if possible.
Floor mat/carpet, front
Hazard switch.
More pictures of your car, for my eight year old daughters class.
Do you have any pictures of the other car?

Did it occur to you to try and have it fixed?

It can be done, if yo ushop around, I would think you could get it done for about $2000.00 - 2500

The body parts are not very expensive. Shoot, I have a trunk lid I'll let you have for free.

Don't know if it's worth it to you or not.

If you were rearended, they should have to pay. Just because the insurance compnay says it's a total loss, doesn't mean it has to be.

You could get estimates on the repair and actually fight to have your car repaired, as opposed to salvaged.

Considering you still have it, I am assuming they paid you off.

I did consider having it fixed, but the estimates were between 8k and 12k.

The car is pretty bent; the back doors don't open easily and I don't think the front and rear wheels are tracking in parallel. (Ironically, the trunk lid is unscathed)

I also know that I just would not be completely happy knowing that it had been repaired and painted so extensively; I am better off just to keep my eyes open and find another in similiar condition; one will turn up eventually.

The insurance company did pay me off; however, that payment was not nearly what I will have to pay when find a similiar car to purchase. Rather than hiring an attorney and appraiser, I figured it would less riskly to just take the settlement, and try to make up some of the difference selling the parts.
