Farewell, old w123..

Well, the time has come.
My 281K 1983 300D that I've put almost 50K miles on in the last year, and agonized over weather to repair or modify or do what with, is going to a new home tomorrow afternoon.

The forums own RichMason in Chapel Hill, 240 driver and WVO lover will be her new owner. I think she'll be in fine hands, and wish them both the absolute best. It's always hard letting go of a car you have a lot of time and/or miles in, but it's a little easier when it's not going too far and will be in good hands.

Yes I'm jumping ship, for a time. I will have another MB diesel, there just to good not to, but the w123 was not quite right for me. I either need a coupe in w123 or a w126, the former in manual with manual climate control prefferably. I'll probibly have to build it, but that will be just fine.
What is takeing the Mercedes place? Nothing, till I buy another one.
But I'm going to be driving a 1990 325i BMW, I want to be able to zip along and shift gears and slip through corners again for awhile. As a friend of mine said recently, "it's all German".

I'll try and keep up, this is probibly the BEST forum I've ever had the pleasure of posting to and learning from. You are all just down right great. And I still plan on attending the one-day NC diesel meet, MB or not!.

Thanks again guys, and till next time..

There's a neglected little faded, dark red manual everything 240D sitting at a little grill in my town here too, been sitting there for ages, old man is about gone that owned it. Wonder if his kids/wife will believe an old Mercedes is not worth much?

Proud new owner

I'm pretty excited about the trade. Wolf's 300D is a beautiful car and a very cushy and quiet ride compared to my somewhat austere 80 240D. This gives me the great ability to make the 240 my WVO 'test-bed' without having to worry each day about putting it back on the road. There is some talk in our household about ditching our TDi and going back to being a IDI family. Hmmmm...we'll have to fight over the new 300's power sunroof.

Thanks again Wolf.

I had my eye on a 66 Chrysler 300 when I was in college. I had almost nothing for money. It was in the back parking lot of a doctor's office, covered with dirt and leaves. I finally went in and asked who owned it. Called the guy and asked if he'd take $50 or $75 for it. He said he'd just bought a brand new VW the day before, so how about $50. One of the best vehicles I ever had.

If you don't ask, you'll never know
