While a PLC would work in a car, I would rather use a basic stamp.
For much less money ($45) you can do temp control, PWM, read and write an analog value, read a pot and so on. The serial interface allows the use of an LCD or other display. See http://www.parallax.com/ for more info. Here is a List Of Stamp Applications http://www.hth.com/filelibrary/txtfiles/losa.txt This guy started out with basic stamps and other microcontrollers and look at what he's done! http://www.webelectricmagazine.com/ As far as PLC programmers and income, I'm a maintenance mechanic at a dry mix (pancake mix etc..) plant in Kent Washington. I've been using PLCs and doing lite programming of PLCs since the late '80s and am making just over $22 an hour. More programming experience would put me closer to $25 an hour but frankly, I'm not that interested in programming to make the effort. Michael
