Pretty pleased

I was able to get both a drivers door and left fender for my W123 wagon for $110.00. Both are in real nice shape with no rust. The fender turned out to be factory replacement part as it still has the Mercedes inventory tags inside the fender. This will make a nice replacement for the cheap aftermarket fender currently on my car (ebay bargain....not!).

I had to remove the parts myself but that went pretty quick. The fact that the fender was replaced made the screw removal very easy and there was no heavy coating of underseal glueing the fender in place. The donor car was literally white with bird poop so the hardest part was scrubbing everything down before loading the parts in the back of the wagon. Fortunately there was enough snow around to use. Now I feel like Lady Macbeth, no matter how much I wash my hands I still feel unclean!! Out damn spot!!

replacement panels

Keep hearing from time to time about poor aftermarket fenders for 123. Is it the fit that is bad or are they just too thin? I will need a couple of front fenders myself for latest 240d out of new jersey. The aftermarket patch panels pressed in denmark do not seem to be bad. Wonder if the aftermarket fenders are danish as well or oriental.. No good donar cars for body metal left in my area. Probably grab a couple of used ones on one of my forays south.

If your not really fussy aftermarket is fine. The fit is not perfect and the front corner is not formed as nicely a factory fender. Your welcome to my aftermarket fender, it's rust free and in good shape. I was going to just toss it. I work near Princeton in Plainsboro, NJ if you want to pick it up sometime. Let me know.

No to my knowledge there are no good yards near West Chester. I've made a few runs up to Harry's U pull it in Hazelton, PA. But that place is always spotty for Mercedes. I'm open for suggestions on yards in the Philly/S. NJ/ or Delaware area.

I came across this by picking up an item I won on ebay for my 108. The seller works in a gas station near Montclair NJ. He saw my 300TD and asked if I needed any parts. He showed me a 240D that was a stolen vehicle recovery and was smashed up in the back. The interior is just fair and the engine is beat. It does have a manual transmission but who knows what condition that is in? The car has over 300K miles on it. The seller wanted $400 for the trans setup including him removing it from the car. If any one is interested I will pass on the contact info.

Have you been to Great Valley Salvage in Malvern (by Rt 30 and 29)? That yard used to be awesome before they started cleaning up. Lot's of old Benz's VW's etc.... even found a Corvair pick-up and van there! Still have some good finds there but not as intersesting to stroll around anymore. It's been a couple of months since I've been there, but they had an '85 SD, and a '77 240D at the time. Also had a 420SEL, not sure of the year through. Over the summer they had a rust free 300D from Cali. Never got a chance to grab some body panels before they crushed it... guy only wanted $60 for the pair of front fenders (or $400 for the whole car). Shorty's U Pull It up in KOP/Conshohocken used to have lots of good Euro cars as well. Used to hit their "Pull-a-Thons" regularly, but haven't had a chance to for a good 5 years... I want to check them out again sometime.

No, I will have to check that out. Thanks for the lead. I've been to Shorty's but lately there pricing seems flakey. I had some Bosch fuel injectors from a 450SEL and they wanted to charge me an outrageous core charge for them. Go figure a core charge on used parts??
