Valeo Voltage Regulator Source W210 E300TD

Hello All,

I have a 1998 E300TD with a Valeo Alternator (Original equipment). The car has 160K and I would like to replace the regulator before the brushes are completely gone. I took it out the regulator and it is NOT a BOSCH, but a Valeo Alternator and regulator. I have looked hi and low for this part over the last year and the only supplier I have found is the dealer at $110.00. This seems a bit on the high side given the Bosch unit is available for $35.00. Any ideas? None of the usual mail order places have it listed (including Fastlane). I have called one or two and they do not have the part.

Thanks again for any Ideas.

valeo alternator/regulator

try "googling" gearheadracingparts
try "googling" valeo alternator ( I know this one works, it takes you to
Gear Head Racing Parts and the regulator is around $30.00 U.S.)

The alternator in our '97 and '99 E300 are both Bosch... Interesting...

That is a weird problem. The Mercedes EPC says that your car only came with a Bosch alternator. The Valeo regulators part numbers are:
003 154 01 06 or 003 154 03 06 depending on which alternator you have.
Good luck!

My '98 E300 also has a Valeo OEM alternator date coded from 1997, so it is original. I also am trying to find parts for it.

Valeo Saga Continued

All,

I called gearheadracing, no luck here either. My mothers 97 E300 had a bosch, we have a 98 e320 with a bosch, but the 98 E300 TD has a Valeo. The sales guy at gearheadracing noted that Valeos are quite commonly only installed at the factory/dealer and then replaced with bosch units.

For my money, the Valeo Voltage regulator is better designed that the bosch. I have never had a car that made it past 125K without a replacement (I am at 160K now).

Sounds like a fledging business opportunity here. Anyone have an Idea on where to get the Valeo Regulator? I even email Valeo a while ago with no response. The Valeo parts do not appear to be available anywhere in the States. Another posted on the forum (from germany) mentioned that he has purchases Valeo parts in Germany. Sounds like a road trip is due!!

If it is the front/rear Bearings are ball or roller bearings and the Alternator is apart there should be a number on the Bearing or on the Grease Shield.

I would do a search on eBay first but an Industrial Bearing Suppliers have cross referances. If not they will measure it and look it up by the dimensions

If your Alternator has the Neeldle Bearings in the Rear as the older American ones do you could bring the Rotor and the rear half of the Alternator with you so they can figure it out.

Also some Members have replaced only the Brushes on Blower Motors and I believe that same could be done on a Voltage Regulator if some could be found that were close. The can be hand sanded down to size by putting the Sand or Emery Paper on a flat surface.
ACE Hardware sells some Brushes.

I took a look at the web site they sell Valeo and Bosch Brush kits and also sell bearings. However, most of the Bearings were listed by their number not by the make they were used on.

Also they are in Chino Southren CA; not an unreasonable distance from where I live.

I have replaced alt brushes on a number of different brands of regs. Its not hard, just a bit of soldering. If the reg is good, a few $ for brushes is a very economical solution.
I have had an alt that had done that much work that the slip rings were completely gone. It was a little more complicated to replace them. It worked though.

Valeo regulator

I found a Valeo 120 Amp alternator in the local DIY auto junkyard. The alternator was on a 2001 W210 car and carries the Mercedes part number 011 154 62 02. The regulator is part number 2545472 and the brushes are worn but not completely gone. The "2000" date code suggests that this was the car's original alternator.

I haven't checked with my dealer yet but based on this thread and others, the regulator would probably be three times what I paid for the entire alternator. The Wagner web site recognizes the part number of the regulator but says "No Wagner Replacement Parts Found." I guess I'll try to find a set of replacement brushes -- doesn't seem to be any other option.

I found a pretty good rebuild at advance auto its been on the car over 60K now and isnt making any noise. My original one had bead bearings and on disassembly I found the valeo is solderd, togeather very difficult to rebuild or replace brushes without damaging it. I opted out for the $139 with apretty good warranty

I was able to buy a pair of brushes for $10 at a local generator/alternator/starter rebuilder. They're not a perfect replacement but will fit and work. Haven't tried installing them yet. For the future I think I'll avoid Valeo.
