fuel filter leak issue
I changed fuel filters last week and seem to have a leak from the big 24 mm bolt that tightens the filter on to the base. I have not taken it apart yet, but was curious if this is a common problem? woundering what to expect, or look for as I dig into it tomotow, or just go and order parts in preperation.
Thanks, Jason

There should be a crush washer under the head of the hollow bolt. You can reuse the washer a few times and get away with it. But one time too many and it will leak.

fuel leak
I'm no expert but I had the same problem when I first changed the main fuel filter. no matter what I did i.e. new washer it still leaked. the only thing that worked was to just keep tighting the bolt till it stops leaking. I know this sounds stupid, but it worked, and believe me I've busted quit a few bolt heads in my time. The only damage that I think could possibly happen is you
damage the filter by drawing it upward to much. Like I said I'm no expert but it worked. |

If I recall, there are a couple of o-rings on the "bolt". Probably need replacement.

There is a modified fuel filter housing that MB came out with to cure this problem. You'll also need the modified bolt and appropriate o-rings rather than the previous seal ring at the top of the bolt. That is omitted with the modified housing. There is no difference as to the way the new housing looks, the number just supercedes, which your local MB dealer's parts guy will have.

Aaron Thanks for that, I've been hanging around here for a while and never heard about this. I wonder what year they started the modified version.

My '84 has the new style. I'm uncertain if my wifes '83 has the old or new style since I didn't really pay attention when I last changed her fuel filter. I wish Knecht would include the o-rings in with the fuel filter instead of the 2 crush washers that I have no use for
