Short Trips Problematic?

I am shopping a big benz 87 sdl....and have begun to wonder whether my short (7 miles each way ) trips might be problematic?

Tks in advance,
Chris

Contrary to instinct, short trips are considered 'severe duty' for a vehicle, particularly a diesel.

However, don't let that stop you, just keep a few things in mind. You'll want to change your oil and oil filter more often, for instance, and you'll want to get a good full-temperature open throttle highway run in now and again to keep things clean.

I have a 10 mile round trip commute, but I also make frequent trips to nearby cities and road trips. If I drive to and from work everyday for a week with no other trips my car smokes more and doesn't run as well. A few good runs on the highway and it smooths right back out again.

So anyway, its not problematic, just keep the 'severe duty' thing in mind as you plan your maintainence.

peace,
sam

Take it on a ride once in awhile to clean it out. I have a 15 mile commute each day and my SDL seems to like it.

RE: Short Trips

Thanks for the quick responses!

I forgot to mention (if it matters), I live in South Florida ...winter is non-existent!
Tks,
Chris
