diesel fuel smell when i step on the gas
particularly if i floor it. very strong smell un-burned diesel. granted the windows were down, but i didn't think it was normal for such an odor to be emitted. i changed the fuel filters the other week, and i may not have tightened the one of the prefilter screws enough. what do you guys make of this?

Check your fuel return lines, braided cloth over rubber, that run between the injectors. If they look or feel wet, they need to be replaced. They will give you a strong smell of diesel in the cabin.

Take the
open diesel fuel can out of your GASSER. LOL
Check the fuel lines for any leaks...

What do you call the "gas pedal" on a Diesel anyway? "Step on the Diesel" just sounds wrong.

See.. I thought 'throttle' refered to the throttle body of the intakes on a gasser, where you open and close the little butterfly valve to make the car go faster. Since we don't have that I didn't think it would be a throttle.
Accellerator is a good term, but its pretty vague. I'm going to go with, "Fuel Squirtin' Thing". "Quick, step on the Fuel Squirtin' Thing!!" Sounds good to me. peace, sam

braided hose
Since volkswagen uses the borch injectors their aftermarket suppliers have it quite cheap sometimes. Expensive for what it is. As for the pedal to the right hand side it is just the warp drive control on my 240d. Everything goes blurry when I push it to the stop. Concetric halos as well. Perhaps a heavy exhaust leak in manifold area? Love the vendors adds that claim this model car has always been a non smoking car.

Always be as vague as possible: Just "step on it".
Besides, who ever heard of driving a 240D at half 'pedal'?

spelling error?
Anyone would think I have caught my lazy spelling habits from my 240d. But that is not the case. I just do not use those hammering BOSCHE injectors instead all my diesels are equiped with the aftermarket tap dancing highly refined BORCH injectors. Strange you should mention beets as all the aftermarket BORCH injectors come in red, perhaps you have seen a set? With all the sexual overtones relating to two members being shafted this week by two indys one has to be very careful. Besides spotting one potential peeping tom and one animal lover can only wait and see if someone asks if their indy is cheating on them. Pity the poor guy as the odds of it happening are high and the results predictable. Was going to mention that one of my lines were tongue in cheek kind of thing today but just too dangerous an expression to use right now. Well was warned in advance this forum had a little of everything. Much prefer someone target me than the reverse as my wife has conditioned me on what it is like to be on the recieving end for decades now. Even though she has ripped the heart out of me I still have a little sensitivity.

Here's what my desktop dictionary states: Throttle Noun: throttle 1. A valve that regulates the supply of fuel to the engine 2. A pedal that controls the throttle valve Verb: throttle 1. Place limits on 2. Squeeze the throat of 3. Reduce the air supply; of carburetors It's the second verb I'm concerned with.
