I just got an email from ebay saying that the listing has been removed from ebay, and the seller is no longer a registered user. What happened?

I have no idea!

I on hold with ebay now . I'm completely clueless. Ebay cancelled my auction, and won't give me a reason why. I've had an account since 1998, no negatives (and no complaints that I'm aware of). I'm waiting on someone from Ebaymotors to explain it.

You have got to love ebay. This is a perfect example of a company that needs compitition.

No surprise there. Dealing with e-bay is like trying to get some info from the phone company.

Thus far, they won't even explain why they did it.

I can't get a straight answer out of them. I called them and they said, that they did it in error, and that they reinstated my account. They then refused to answer any of my questions, other than to tell me that it was a "site issue" and they would not elaborate.

The car will be re-listed tonight at about 7pm CST. I guess that's all I can do.

well in my opinion the 140 is a great car...expensive yes.. I don't think it was ever meant to be a cheap car......they are great cars when taken care...but you should run from one that has not been maintained
As for the 17,000 in repairs over 30K miles..under warranty...I can believe that. But the question is how much of that work needed to really be done ..or would have gone undone if the car had not had warranty.
When I owned my 140 diesel absolutely everything worked,99% of the work was done at the MB dealer and most of that by one tech there...100% of everything that he recommeneded be done to the car was...it was warranty work..and by the way if buying a new set of Michelin MXV4 tires bothers you...this is not the car you need to be looking at

I think what the 140 is worth(market value) and what a 1985 300SD is worth is proportionate to the cost of repairs...how many people here have invested more in their 80's SD's than they are worth?

I guess I don't get this beef with the 140 cars

Ebay's answer-

Ebay wouldn't give me an answer other than to say that it was in error-

I recieved this email-

Dear Herbert Phillips ,

We have returned your listing(s):

4526366466 Mercedes-Benz : S-Class

to the site, where it now appears as an ended item. All you have to do is click on the relist link located in the listing itself and it will restart. Additionally, if there were any bidders for the item(s) listed above, we have emailed each of them a copy of the following letter:

"You recently had placed a bid on item number(s):

4526366466 Mercedes-Benz : S-Class

which had been removed by eBay. After review of this listing, we have found that it was removed in error.

As a result, we have informed the seller that they may relist their item if they wish to do so. Please feel free to re-bid on this item under the new item number. To locate the new item number, please check the sellers list of items at:

http://pages.ebay.com/search/items/search_seller.html

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Regards,

eBay Inc

Wow!

Something like that happened to me just two weeks ago, except I actually got a reason for it. Someone had faked to be the publisher of the books I was selling and claimed that my selling the books violated copyright rules. Of course, I don't know what was the worse thing about the situation: the fact that I didn't violate any copyright rules or the fact that the e-mail was from a fake party yet eBay just went ahead and removed my auction based on it. My auction wasn't even reinstated. Ebay is still investigating what happened. I already relisted and sold the books while eBay continues its investigations.

I received two emails about 3 weeks ago - one from ebay, one from PayPal - requiring that I give them info. such as credit card #s, bank account #s, etc. or I would no longer be able to use ebay or PayPal. Anyone else receive this?
I didn't respond. At first I couldn't get the link to come up so I waited, now I am glad I did. Someone else said it was not through either company and was a scam to get identity info.

This is never good for a sale. Buyers will get "spooked" from such an action. Be interesting to see if any of the previous bidders return, if you have saved them, Herb.

I believe it cost $17K in those repairs because the engine blew its head gasket and had some other issues. The guy who posted that can ellaborate for you. They were all needed repairs as the engine couldn't work obviously without them.

I think MB quality has been slipping for decades but no one knew. There are many types of issues with the W140 chassis that don't exist on the W126. The evaporator that always needs replacement after a while, the excessive wear of tires due to an under-engineered suspension, head gasket issues with the 3.2L I-6, many many issues with the V12, electrical nightmares that I won't even go into, etc. None of those are problems on an MB car made prior to the 140 period. The only big problem with the earlier MBs was vacuum and ACC issues, none of which would stop the car from moving.

Yeah they were never meant to be cheap cars but that's a very silly aspect of them. The percentage of 140s out there that were well maintained is more like 10% or less. Even the well maintained ones have the issues I listed above as those are design issues. It's amazing. Such a nice, appealing car having so many issues. I still want my '99 S600 though.

I'm sure it was a "spoof".

For the future, if you get any more from either "paypal" or "ebay" just forward it to "spoof@ ebay.com" or "spoof@paypal.com". They will reply pretty quick and tell you the deal. It's almost always fraudulent.

Yes I got it too and indeed, it was an identity scam. If you were very observant, you would have noticed that the link you were supposed to click on didn't go to ebay.com or paypal.com but to some other website. That was how I concluded it was a scam and deleted it right away. Unfortunately my brother wasn't as clever as I was. He received the same message and gave them all the information they wanted. Two days later he saw some $1,000 charge on his credit card. Of course the credit card company has refunded the amount and is now investigating the whole thing, but it shows we should all be extra careful out on the web.

They're giving me a free listing for my headache.

Apparently they thought that I was someone pretending to be me ? or something? explanation was vague...
