W140 300SD in Memphis, Tn

Another shameless plug. Here is ONE of the five MB diesels that I'll be selling this month. Yes , I probably went overboard with the ad, and yes, some of you will disagree with portions of my text, but anyway. Here it is. Without reserve, a very nice car (in my driveway now, and has been my daily driver for about two weeks, while my w220 sits and rots next to it

Bidding starts @ $19.93, enjoy.

shameless plug to the ebay auction for the w140 diesel. ).

Clearly, another one of your timeless machines...........

...........that seem to be available only in Memphis.

But, how much oil did it consume in the last two weeks???

Well, I started the bids rolling, though I'll be outbid. Why didn't you sell this one under "unusualimports"?

There.........

I can't stand looking at bids less than $5K for this car.

So, I bumped it up a bit.

Don't feel bad.

My dreams of buying it for $7K will be shattered before the next 24 hours are up.

Indeed Mr. Phillips, I counted five different statements you made that I'd disagree with you on. In fact, of the five, three were factual errors, not even my own opinion. For instance, the fact that the newer S-Class weighs less than the old one isn't an indication of quality lost. It could actually be an indication of quality gained: better engineering of components to use less weight, better overall design, usage of lighter, but stronger metals and high strength plastics, etc. Oh, I'll pick another one: there isn't an instance in which a W140 equipped like a W220 outweighs the W220 by 1,200 pounds. I checked the specs and the greatest weight difference between both cars [comparably equipped] is 600 pounds. These two in particular are statements that, even if erased from your auction listing, won't make you lose any potential customers. But that's my opinion and apparently yours is different there. And I'm not even asking you to disclose that you're selling a r** *****r! LOL Just kidding.

But what can I say? The beauty of eBay is that 1) you can make junk look nice and sell it successfully and 2) liars can lie all they want and really get away with it.

Not trying to slam you on the head though. I've seen several of your auctions and my jaw drops on each one. I even once took your side when a forum member here started to attack your auctions. Everything you put up for sale looks so nice that I actually was thinking that once I am ready for my 1999 S600 (hopefully in a few months' time if business stays good) I should ask you to find me one and sell it to me since you know how to find these awesome cars. I still don't know how you do it. I only know of one other seller on eBay who consistently sells top quality Mercedes-Benzes.

I have thick skin

I have been in this business my entire life.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I started to feel guilty about selling a car with marginal tires, so I bought four new Michellin MXV4 's and had them installed. The car also has new rotors and pads all the way around.

As a side note, I haven't noticed any oil consumption / smoking issues at all. The only picky item would be the front engine harness looks like some of the insulation has seen better days. I replaced one before on an S350 and I think it took me about 1 hr and cost $120 or so.

It's nice to stir up such a commotion. Hope I get some bids!

Nice car Herb.

I wonder why you are not selling the car under Unusual Imports.

Looks like this one is getting to bid way up.

It is already at $8,100, and 9 days left.

The end result is the 140 class diesel. The inline six in my opinion has proven itself to be a bulletproof and worthy successor to the final 1985 300SD.

Come on now... bulletproof? You felt guilty about old tires but offer up this statement?

Thank goodness everyone has an opinion. Since we are critiquing Herbs ad I'm not too sure I can agree that the later model engine is a "worthy" successor in regards to being bulletproof compared to the 617.

As always nice looking car/ad Herb but can't you do something about that music?

Brian Carlton,

I see you've been helping your good old friend Herbert by shill bidding even if he didn't ask you to.

Right- from my understanding you had better have deep pockets if you have your heart set on owning one of those cars. I happen to think it looks fat, kinda chubby. Not attractive. Like a linebacker wearing ballet slippers with those tires and rims. I hate big cars with little teeny rims and tires. I used to think Herb was the straightest MB seller on eBay, but now I'm not so sure with that statement about the engine being 'bulletproof' i.e. compared to a 617. Completely untrue We're onto you Herb!
Music is a bit irritating as Eng pointed out. I kept wondering where it was coming from, since I was looking at the ad in my office, and I have a Dell workstation with a little speaker on the motherboard. It sounded faint because of this, causing me to think it was somebody's cell ringer.

Shill bidding? Me? What makes you say that?

Maybe I'll own it for $11K?
