Beautiful 93 300SD...love his comment on engine

If I needed another vehicle I would be ALL OVER this one. Though I would prefer Black Leather.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6336&item=4526366466&rd=1

This is what he says:

The W140 class cars are substantially more luxurious and heavier than their predecessor , the w126 "S" class. Many of you might remember that the inception of the six cylinder diesel in North America occurred with the 1986 300SDL and the E300, both with the 3.0L in line six and the dreaded 1987 trap oxidizer.

MB followed up with its 1987 300SDL through 1991 350SD and SDL models. The diesel six had its fair share of bumps and miscues in the late 80s through 1991, but as Mercedes benz engineers frequently, revise and rethink, improvements are born.

The end result is the 140 class diesel. The inline six in my opinion has proven itself to be a bulletproof and worthy successor to the final 1985 300SD
.

Hmmmmm, he may want to rethink that....at least he doesn't give the 500,000 statement.

Think he has his production numbers wrong too.

First off, the chassis weight between the W140 and W126 is about 300 - 400 lbs difference. This is factoring the massive amount of technology being debuted for the '92 model year.

Second off, the '86 SDL came in two versions: Federal, and California. California had the TO. Which we all do not have to worry about anymore thanks to the '96 - '97 campaign.

Third off, a typo. There was no E300.

I love the line that says it has a proven track record.

But, what can you expect from one that tries to sell cars based on profit margins rather than through ownership and honest personal experience.

We're not his customer base for this car.

Justin, I'm high bidder for it.

I'll give $7K!

Any bets on the final number?? I'm a bit unsure of this one.

Look at the passenger side front tire - severe uneven wear. Front end issues

Beautiful car - the wife saw me looking at it and said no, it looks too modern. I am fortunate, she loves the retro styling of the 123 and older. Last summer we would fight over who got to drive the 300D to work. I would say it's mine, I bought it. Well, she said I have to go out and get her one. Now we have too many cars and my kids think I need counseling

Yeah the 3.5 is just as good as the 617...

Notice the people who have bent over and wrote a $13k check to replace one don't say things like that!

I wouldn't touch a diesel W140 unless it was mint and I got it cheap, the gas engines are so much better then the 3.5 and cheaper to buy also. When I was looking for at W140's 1999 S320's seem to be a real bargin.

I'd put this at around 14 to 17k for the final winner. All depends how much it heats up

If I ever buy a W140, please come over here and examine the inside of my head to determine where my brain has gone.

I was just having some fun. Put up a number of $7K and was going to watch to see if it held for 24 hours.

Sure, I'll buy it. Provided that you do all the repairs on it for me. I'll pay you $20 per hour.

Think I'll go broke?

Yeah, I noticed the front tire....If I were going to sell a vehicle of this caliber I think the least I could do is buy a tire or two. The 140's all go through tires quickly. If the tires were left to get so bad, wonder what other maintenance items were neglected?

Some (maybe all?) 140's have a factory defect in the front suspension that causes them to eat tires. I heard of a dealer that replaces tires at no charge on a 140 any time the owner brings it it, that is easier than fixing the suspension problem, whatever that might be!
