Ethical question: KM Badge...
 

OK, How "early" is it safe to put on a milage badge? I was just basically given a 250k km badge and am a bit short on that for milage (I was looking to get a 200k km one as I passed that mark a while back). How early can you put one on before the Gods sit back and laugh "Foolish mortal! So confident is he that his car will run to 250k km! HA! We'll show him!!" :eek:

How many of you have "cheated" and put one on early, and how early?

PS: I was going to get one from the dealer, but btw how much trouble everyone here has w/ getting one from the dealer and the fact that I'm currenty POed at mine....And free is aalways better!

ah, you'd only be cheating yourself, driving around knowing you haven't earned that badge yet- and it could tempt fate to make you car break down before you've reached those miles! :)

I'm tempted to put my 250km badge on my E300D, or rather I would be if it still wasn't in a box somewhere between the US and blighty. By the time it gets here hopefully I'll be close to 155k miles, which I think is around 250km?

To me it would be like putting a "Type R" sticker on a Honda Civic....
plus when we see you on the road WE will know.

I have 143K miles on my 95 E300D. I would like to hit 200K miles without any major work.

But yes 99.9% of the cars with Type R stickers were put there by wannabe's

I remember a saying when dealing with God that went " Don't wave your number at him"... But this is the closest to a literal situation involving waving your number I have ever seen...

It would be like putting AMG badges on a run of the mill 300E. Might impress your buddies but those "in the know" would think differently.

Exactly...make the that badge meaningful...

Don't tempt fate. You'll be sorry and you'll have to confess your sin here when you need help after something horrible goes wrong. We will tell you that we told you so.

Things that could go wrong if you badge your car inappropriately:
1) You'll get a warped cylinder head.
2) A little uninsured driver with no personal assets in a Honda will hit you in just the right spot to inflict the most $$ damage, but not enough to get that out of any insurance company. The parts you need to fix your car will also be very scarce.
3) Your engine will just come to pieces in one way or another. Timing chain, etc.

That's what I was thinking. :rolleyes: However, I wouldn't quite put it in the same catagory as AMG badging a plain-jane (the ultimate sin). There is a small difference btw lying about your age and lying about your abilites...
Anyway, looks like I need to go out and put some miles on my car...anyone need anything that will fit a W124 trunk delivered to California? Or have a 200k km badge to trade me? :D

Ive had the same sort of moral dilema. I took my mileage badge of my 123 and put it on my w115. The odometer says 93K, but actually its 193K. Just cant take it too the dealer and say, add 100,000 miles to that. So technically speaking, it deserves the award; officially though, it doesn't belong to the car :(

And I'm reading this thinking, yep, he just typed this off and got it exactly right, and I would know that because I'm of about the same vintage... :eek:

155,342.8 miles for the "starter" badge, 310,685.6 miles for the next one (this may be the year for Blue, we'll see :rolleyes: ) and 621,371.2 for the really cool one. No sooner. But you already knew that, right? ;)

We have to define how early "Early" is to be acceptable. Can I put one on my car with 67000 on the clock with a little sticky disclaimer "Will be 250000 in X miles."
