I have the same corrugated metal tube under the "underdash cover" of my 300SDL.

It is quite easy to pull off the underdash cover panel. I could only find one nut that holds on the corrugated metal tube. Removed it and wasn't even able to move the tube -- there are obviously a number of other fasteners I couldn't see.

My wife's 560SL has the same tube and it took me an hour to figure out how to remove it. There are three holes in the bottom of the tube. You put a 10mm socket with a LONG extension through the hole and the nuts are INSIDE the tube at the top!

I wasn't able to find anything like this on the SDL. Looked inside the tube and there are no internal fasteners holding it on. There are definately some nuts holding this tube on.

If anyone figures it out, let me know. I'm the third "crazy" person here with this tube

Your 84 has the plastic duct integrated into the kick panel?

That is so bizarre. Must be due to a modification in the layout on the dash. On Mommy's84 she has the little shelf that runs along the bottom fo the wood on the left side of the steering wheel. It'll only hold a pair of sunglasses or a cell phone but it's there.
Does your 84 have that shelf?

Well, since I have not been driving the SD, I have to go out and check.................

The duct is definitely integrated into the kick panel on the '84.

There is no shelf on the panel.

It seems identical to Kevin's '85.

My '85 has no such shelf.

Weirder and weirder.
