Good books on diesel engines?

I was wondering if anyone had any particular recommendations of reference books on diesel engines ... not nec MB engines, but small diesel engines in general. I was going to scour Barnes and Noble for some ref books to entertain myself in my spare time. My knowledge of engines is pretty shoddy in general, so I thought I might beef it up a little.

Any suggestions?

Try your Public Library--I checked out a few a year ago for the same reasons you did-self education. Best of all--FREE

check out "Mercedes-Benz Diesel Automobiles" by Robert Nitske.

excellent info on the development of the diesel engine and subsequent applications in MB diesels.

the book is out of print, but available used from Amazon for sure, possibly a library.
