Just added another benz to my stable

Here she is.........Zero rust anywhere.

http://mercedes.bloggle.info/#

Till I resize pictures to post them heres a link for the car I just bought. This was the sellers webpage.

$2,800 cash got it. Its now at my house...waiting to title and transfer tags from my honda.

And this is from when it was on ebay........http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4520377065&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Brian Carlton 02-12-2005 03:51 PM

Wow, she looks excellent.

Why would the seller rate the paint "7" and the interior "7". It would appear that he is too critical of it?

It's my favorite color combo.

Good luck with it.

pawoSD 02-12-2005 03:52 PM

Thats a nice looking car!! Someday when I actually have money I hope to be able to have a *stable* as well.....as for now, I'll enjoy my SD, and my debt. :D

Brandon314159 02-12-2005 04:21 PM

That is a pretty boss ride there...

I like the color combo too...
Now you get another MB to go through and do all the good little modifications to :)

Hatterasguy 02-12-2005 05:42 PM

Nice! Good deal, for $2,800 how can you go wrong?

boneheaddoctor 02-12-2005 05:46 PM

Tach isn't working but clock is.........temp guage isn't but the others are......A/C works............cruise even works.

Something managed to get "stuck" in the EGR vacume line today and can't figure out how to get it out for the life of me. :D

Its flaws........couple of scratches in the hood paint....and a cigaret burn on the back seat. And a tiny perferation on the headliner in the back. And the doors on the two vanity lights on the visors are off. Need to see if I can find a way to fix that.

Even has the factory tool kit.

Front suspension is tight. all in all a good deal for a rust free car I think.

Hatterasguy 02-12-2005 05:49 PM

If the scratches are not to deep they will buff out. If you can grab it with your nail it isn't going anywhere though.

boneheaddoctor 02-12-2005 05:51 PM

No these won't buff out.......they were deep and someone used touch up paint on them..........

Its going to be my daily driver.

There is a dent on the pass rear door....like it sideswiped something. You can just barely make it out in the photos.

And the Becker stereo is D.O.A. putting in a much better aftermarket CD/ MP3 deck anyway.

Can't wait to get the tags on it so I can sort out the low power it has. figure its a minor issue. maybe as easy as new filters....and ALDA tweak. IT runs real smooth and fired up instantly today........and it wasn't really very warm out.

Now to find some dash wood in excellant shape.

Brian Carlton 02-12-2005 06:27 PM

Just make sure that you don't go pluggin breather hoses on this one.................. :D

Nice looking car, but did someone glue on the cup holder in the center of the dash (looks like crazy glue under it to me) if they did they need a thrashing!

J. R. B. 02-12-2005 09:02 PM

It looks like a dandy to me too. When I bought my 83 the tach didn't work either so I did the cigarette butt fix listed in the diesel disscussion and it has worked fine ever since. I hope it gives you as much pleasure as my 83 is giving me.

fire and runns nicely...but power is way down compared against my W116 300SD.......nothing a treak won't help. :D

BenzBoy8 02-13-2005 02:49 PM

That is a beauty!

turbodiesel 02-13-2005 04:10 PM

I hate to say I think you paid too much for it. You could have gotten a higher mileage, nicer example for less money. The low odometer does not always mean a better car.

C'mon tell us what you really think ;)
On a side note, that is one great thing about this forum- you can say what you really think and usually no offense is taken. I've been visiting the new MBCA forum and IMHO it's a much poor site compared to here. Some were offended when I posted pics of my 80 wagons lights and engine. They prefered the "yellow" fogs- as if a non turbo came with yellow fogs-and then again a bit offended when I said w123 wagons needed a third brake light (mine both have then now courtesy of the yards) because others believe in the CHARACTER
of the original with no modifications. The moderator cautioned me to tone it down.... in public no less.
Anyways I think you got a very nice car at price you won't see often that'll last you decades to come. :sun_smile

Not offended...............$2,800 cash for a LOCAL car with ZERO rust. I am happy with the deal. $2,900 didn't meet his ebay reserve......locally he was asking $3,300, from suspension is tight no sloppiness. Inspected everything personally. A/C and heat work........only real issue I need to fix is the Temp guage............

Interior is great..........the TACH just needed the old cigaret but treatment on the amp........works fine now. Alda tweek and the motor is quite lively now. Contrary to what the guys ad said cruise worked when I test drove it.

I don't like the Becker radio anyway........everything I have is on CD. needs two pieces of wood replaced.

Any nicer car I would find at that price would have shipping charges associated with it.

And this holds vacume over 24 hours..................thats better than my W116 does...

That is not very cool...sorta weak sauce for a forum :)

Boneheaddoctor,
I think you got this car for a pretty fair price, espically considering you didn't have to travel to get it and its not a heavily mistreated junker.
Now you can protect the w116 and drive this machine :)
You need to race them, same mods etc., and see which wins..
:)

Old300D 02-13-2005 06:13 PM

Sounds like a real nice find. Congratulations.

Brian Carlton 02-13-2005 06:15 PM

You never know whether you paid too much or too little for one of these vehicles until you have owned it for awhile.

If $2800. bought a vehicle with a well maintained engine and transmission and a front end that does not need $1K worth of parts and an a/c system that does not need $1K worth of parts and labor, and a body that has no rust and does not need paint to look good, then, personally, I think you got an excellent deal.

Many of these 200K vehicles have had no work done on the front end and are on their original trans. Of course, you can buy them for $2K, but, what did you get???

If you need any additional confirmation of the above, just look at Hattie. Bought the SDL for about $2.5K. Put over $7K into it in the first year due to "deferred" maintenance.

Where does that leave you?

DENNIS 02-13-2005 06:48 PM

Well I need to get tags this week for it...............so havent driven it since I bought it. I had the guy I bought it from drive it to my house before he pulled his tags....and then I drove hime back home. Didn't want to get busted with wrong tags and no insurance.........saw people get sentanced to jail time for that in courtl here last month.

Pete Burton 02-14-2005 07:58 AM

congrats, that looks like a fine ride. Getting a local vehicle around here withouit rust is practically impossible :(

stayalert 02-14-2005 08:00 AM

bhphd
Nice...hey....is that car for sale? Just kidding I barely noticed the SOLD letters on the photos....Congrats!! :D :D

boneheaddoctor 02-14-2005 08:25 AM

The guy I bought it from titled it jan,3,2005 ..........it was hard keeping my mouth shut about the ALDA adjustment......till it was in my hands, it still had the seal on it.

It was reluctant to rev and had squat for power....but idled and ran smooth and fired almost instantly on a cold motor in nippy weather.

Tweek of the alda and it seems as it it has really come back to life. :D

Now to figure out why the temp guage is dead..........I used a piece of popcorn packing in place of a cigarette but on the tach amp trick and it works fine now.

DENNIS 02-14-2005 08:35 AM

Hello bonehead Doc.--I was so overly tranqual, i did not play in numbers, wish i had. :o :D P.S. you made a very good buy, good luck-- Dennis

Palangi 02-14-2005 09:05 PM

Very nice looking car. I like that color a lot.

Regarding the temp gauge, on mine, the temp sensor (drivers side of the head) was not tightly threaded in. It was leaking a teeny tiny bit of coolant, which corroded the junction where the connector was crimped on the end of the wire, causing an open circuit. The wire terminal is available separately, very cheap, less than a buck if I remember right.
