Pennzoil

I didn't know Pennzoil owned Jifft Lube. It's obvious now, but it was news to me. I'm always the last to know.
Here's a link to the thread explaining about a high mileage pickup owner getting a new truck from Pennzoil.

a bizzare broken seal story

I bought 3 1gl jugs of regular Rotella T from a local O'Reily's (the one near 183 and Lakeline) a couple months ago. These jugs have that stupid packaging, where a non-tamper-proof plastic cap covers an aluminum seal. Back in my garage, with my old oil draining, I opened one of the jugs and discovered that the aluminum seal is broken. With everything I read about old switching on this forum, I wasn't pleased With all of the issues my car has the last thing I want is Non-Marvel Mystery Oil. The other two jugs had the seal broken as well. I called the store to ask WTF, the guy there said that he went and checked the remaining jugs on the shelf, and allegedly they all had broken seals, so he pushed a theory that this must be a manufacturing defect.

I examined the seals, to try to figure out whether the seal could possibly have come off on its own, or whether it's been helped. I couldn't tell conclusively. So I went to a different O'Reily's, and checked a few Rotella T jugs there -- all had seals intact. This just makes no sense. It didn't look like any oil was taken out of the jug. This wasn't used oil for sure, it was fresh. This is dino oil that's already very cheap, so why would anyone bother switching it? Broken seals at one O'Reily's and intact seals in a different one don't really support the manufacturing problem theory (I later bought some Rotella T at Autozone, and all seals were intact). I returned the jugs with broken seals to the store, but I still can't make any sense of this. It's just bizzare.

Some youngster was having fun in that particular store. Probably several other brands had the same thing.
