New or Used GP Relay?

Would you buy a new GP relay or a used one? Can get a used one for about half of the 116 or so they are new, but wanted to know if this is one part that might as well be bought new.

For 85 300Dt.

Thanks.

If you can examine the guts on one first, then do so by removing the top cover, there are a few tiny screws that is all, then look at the relay contacts. They can be pretty ugly what with switching 50+ amps of dc current.
I would have dressed (filed) the faces of the contacts with a tiny file or emery cloth if I had nothing else. Sometimes you can get them to work that way.
I picked up a rebuilt timer module off an '85 300D in a scrapyard, it had no MB part#, it was a Bosch rebuilt, they grind off the MB raised numbers using what appears to be an overhead milling machine. I noticed they replaced the entire circuit board, it looks nothing like the old circuit.
A used GP timer that works probably has lots of life left in it, but I hate to buy some body else's problems so I am bothered with making a decision when it comes to anything over a few $$ if I don't need it right away, but was glad to pay $25 for the rebuilt timer and since then I have used it for troubleshooting and it has paid for itself.
OTOH, if something is being offered on eBay or is sold "as-is" beware!

Thanks. That's what I did with my existing relay. I filed the contacts. But they're pretty pitted and now it's driving me crazy. It's an online deal so I cant inspect. Guess it might be kinda dumb.

I got a used glow plug relay from MTUpower, among other things too. It has worked better than the rest of the car, and he's as good a guy to work with as you will find. He's honest and a pleasure to deal with.
He also shines a mean air cleaner......

He's a member of Mercedes-Shop. Has many good connections with local "parts suppliers".

You can send him a private message via this forum.

I believe the handle is without the space: "MTUpower"
