Any SD/SDLs come with an LSD stock?
Just as it says... did any non-gasser S-class come with LSDs or is this a rarity?
If one, like myself, were to grab one... would a 420SEL diff be best to grab so it has similar gearing? |
What are you talking about???
LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is one of the major drugs making up the hallucinogen class.
LSD Low Sulphur Diesel. Please be clear. |
Limited Slip Diff...
My verbage applies to neither of your replies and isn't contextually correct in fitting in the sentance. |
Auuww hell I was sure it was the drug as it is well known that w126's are a near unanimous choice as a dealers favorite ride.

Only the 560's had a limited slip. But some of the late 350SD/L's did have traction control.
The gearing on a 560's diff would probably make the SDL a dog off the line. |
Caution!!
I thought maybe you had removed the rear seat and made a find!

I was thinking that it'd hold first gear out a tad longer due to the taller gearing... 1st gear is pretty much here and gone in my SD. My SD will never be a road rocket, I'll drive something else if I need to get off the light quicker than a 3.3 sec 60' time :D |

If the tail moved, the LSD was working. If one wheel stood still, the other one would just roast and the tail would go nowhere. My '87 560SEL had the LSD factory with about a 2:48 gear. Sometimes I wonder if it would be a good swap to get the revs down a bit at 65-70 mph. Since my '86 SDL was built for the US market, it was built with 55mph in mind, not our current higher limits. Does anyone know what an SDL would come with in Europe? I'm thinking the German market version would have had the 2:48 gear. Interesting idea, I think.

BobK,
Perhaps I don't understand the functioning of the LSD. Can you explain more clearly? I don't understand what you meant by saying that if one wheel stood still that the other would be roasted and the tail would go nowhere. |
The SDL is a US market car only. I think the gearing is 3.77:1 in the SDL's rear but I am not sure.
These things are designed to rev I think with the 2:48 the rpms would be to low and the engine wouldn't be happy. Someone who is better at math could figure out what one would be turning. |
300SDL is a 2.88, I believe. See DslBnz's post:

Ok now someone who is good at math lets figure out what rp's an SDL would be turning with a 2.48?
With the stock rear of 2.88 it runs about 3k rpm at 70. |
