I'm betting it's the local taxes that causes the most variation in fuel cost in different states. It must suck being an independant trucker these days...

Fuel prices spike in vacation season or whenever supply goes down? No kidding!! Besides, when they go down, no one complains they are paying too little. All the while, their paychecks are higher because of the cost of living increases and raises, etc. I suppose that it would be nice that fuel was at a low of 97 cents a gal like in 1991. Of course then I was earning $9.07 in one of my jobs. Back in 98 I was earning 13.25 in that same job I kept and gas was under $1.50, if I am not mistaken.

I saw one station go up .30/Gal in one week. There's another station I drove by today in Clark County WA and it was $2.65.
Never mind this summer, I'd be happy to "just" pay $2.00/Gal right now.

Spoke too soon!

The usual offenders in my area were now at $2.65 & $2.76 today.
Anybody top these?

Gas spikes in the summer I am hoping like last year diesel is about equal or slightly lower then regular. I remember paying $1.78 last year when I first started to drive my car in the spring. I also remember how much $2.35 was eating into my paycheck. At the rate diesel is going up it will be cheaper to drive a gas car.

It would be nice to have a gas car in the winter to take advantage of low gas prices.

That depends on whether you have a gas car that uses premium or not. Currently in my area B2 is the same as regular diesel and goes at the cheaptest for $2.09. That is about 5 cents lower than premium.

With diesel prices the way they are today over here in SW WA, it is cheaper to drive a gasser. In fact it is now cheaper for me to drive my '93 Silverado with a 5.7L V8 which gets about 17 MPG's and uses RUL than my 300D that only gets about 23 MPG's. Mine is a CA model and its EPA rating was only 21 city and 22 hwy so at 23 its doing better than its rating.
Right now I would sell my 300D without any regret but I wouldn't get squat for it since no one around here would even want a car like it. So for now it sits and I guess it'll stay that way. I'll just cover it and park it somewhere out of the way.
At one Chevron station RUL was $1.99 while diesel at the same place was $2.69. I buy RUL at a local Costco for only(?) $1.73. I wish they had diesel but I doubt I would buy since if diesel is running .50 to .70 more than RUL, it would still be too much.

Make your own Biodiesel. Use it as temps permit. Winter is harder on Diesels as Home Heating Oil helps drive the price up. That is about the only true statement as to why diesel cost more. All the other BS they add is just that, BS. Come summer, Diesel prices should drop back in line some.

I've wanted to make my own fuel by getting WVO from the local restaurants around were I live but no one so far wants to commit to me. I have all I need for my car to run on the stuff except a storage tank, filtration system and pump/siphon. I didn't want to invest in those items until I knew I could get a reliable source of WVO. I have shopped for those items and I can get them the same day if I got someone to agree to commit me their WVO.

Fortunately among my high school confreres are a family that has been dealing in fuel oil for the past 50 years.

Someone will call and say they've converted to gas,can anyone remove the fuel oil and the tank?

Very fortuitous on occasion, thank god I've got a 1,5000 GAL tank and a pickup truck with a 250 gal tank..................love them electric pumps.........

Just don't get caught running that fuel, the fine is $1k per gallon of tank capacity!

It would be a $23,500 fine for me!
