I used to run a regulator to increase boost, I took it off for some reason, I suppose I need to put it back as my boost is running around 9 psi on the present turbo. its the thing with a red band around it in this picture, and has hose barbs that fit the silicone ruber hose running between the turbo outlet and the wastegate spring/diaphragm housing:

After searching I did a test on my Turbo and found-79turbo4.jpg

oilslick - the arrow in the second pic is pointing to the cover that needs to be removed to make the adjustment. Is the line to the ALDA clear? How bout the banjo bolt at the back of the manifold?
Anyway, if you remove the cover you will see a diaphragm with a threade rod in the center with a couple nuts (one of them is a locknut). You need to adjust it. I don't remember the exact details but you need to adjust it where it will require more pressure to open the valve. If you remove the plate shown in the first pic all you will see is the wastegate valve.

Thanks for all the wonderful input

I was planning on tackling this today (Saturday, February 19, 2005) but I am SICK I had three MB jobs to do today. Wastegate adjust on the SD, Valve Adjust on the SD, and an oil and filter change on the 190D. I hate being sick! Well at least I can be inside with my wife and daughter. Those are more important than the cars anyway...right?

Thanks for all your help!

Kevin

Do you have a wider out photo of your turbo setup? Where's that seperator from?

I just picked up a regulator off ebay. we'll see how mine does when it comes in next week.

Adjusted the wastegate today!

That snap ring ain't too bad to remove but it's a doosie to re-install. Anyway, I had to adjust it a pretty good bit...three whole turns I now have a max of 10 psi. I am sure that others will chime in and say it needs to be more but I would rather play it safe.

I also was able to get a shim for my ALDA and now that it is installed I don't have to get out and push my car when it's not up to operating temp. We will see how it goes over the next few days. I am going to keep the boost gauge hooked up for the next few days to monitor the boost performance.

Have a good'n

Kevin

johnhef - I tried to upload a jpg but it is too large, send me an email address and I will send you direct. The separator is an OEM unit from a 240D. My boost is 9 at most, I need to tweak the sensor as soon as I have time. oilslick, I think 10 is the minimum I want, 11.5 is probably par for the course. I used to dial up 14 and it would snap your neck if you weren't careful
