Hello,
I think the black car is a 170SD, a run out model that used the left over 170Va double leaf spring front/swing axle rear suspension chassis with the 170S body. These were built from around 1954 to end 55 after DS production had already ceased.
How can I tell from a picture, you ask
The floor mounted gearlever
ALL 170Sb/DS, that is the W191 chassis, were fitted with column gearlevers.
*Our* car was built in 1953 and had to be shipped out here, then sat for a long time before it sold in October 1954.
Have a good week.

You truly have a dizzying intellect

Nachi,

What was done to the car to prepare it for storage? Ive heard inactivity is horrible for diesels.

Was anything special done to the cooling system and brake system to keep A) the block from rusting from the inside out
B) to keep the wheel cylinders from rusting together.

Also, what was done to the fuel system to keep the fuel from turning into Jello pudding? Was it run dry before hibernation?

No, it is like a personality in the family May end up burying it, though

It was started about once a month for many years, but then other events took over and it sat idle, the engine oil was changed and the coolant drained out before the period if inactivity. The engine was turned over with a breaker bar and then light oil dripped onto the cylinders and left for a few weeks. Fuel was drained off and refilled, then after a few attempts that had all the wiring smoking, it began firing and ran with lots of smoke. I mean really a lot of smoke
Nozzles are nailing at random and it is very shaky, a few valve springs are probably shot, but it runs, so...........
Have a good week
