What do you do with extra parts after upgrade?
I just put 15" rims from tirerack and 215 60H 15 B.F. Goodrich Traction T/A from Sams club (free rotation & balance for life of buyer ). I will try to add a photo or two (first time ).
I now have four 14" original wheels with Michelin Energy MXV4 on them. they have even 5/32 tread all around (remember free rotation and balance for life of buyer) and I am thinking what I should do with this new experience, "extra parts". I was thinking of donating them and getting a tax rite off as well as helping some needy person drive to work. Then I thought that even if I get the tax break what type of needy person can use 14" 5/112mm wheels - a benz owner . Then I thought about ebay sale - never bought or sold on ebay and what about the shipping of four wheels with tire ? This is where the forum comes in. Most members have upgraded something and ended up with "extra parts", even large "no way you are allowed to keep this in the garage" and stay married "extra parts". What do you think should be done ? p.s. sorry for the cropped photos - size problem.

They can sell on e-bay for about $80.00 for the set of four, give or take. The tires compound the issue. With only 5/32 tread, I'm not sure the buyer wants to pay the additional shipping cost. Shipping cost is a big factor in this sale. If you can find a way to ship them relatively cheap (Fedex Ground), and can post the shipping charges right in the listing (without adding anything to it), then you will lure more buyers. Of course, the shipping is more if you have to ship it across the country, so, put in the higher figure. Most buyers will be concerned about the shipping cost. You will find that shipping the combo of the wheel and the tire may not be worth the effort due to the additional cost created by the weight of the tire. Of course, if you happen to get lucky and the buyer can pick the wheels and tires up from you, then it's a done deal. I picked up a set of 15 hole wheels right here in the middle of NYC for $117.00. on e-bay. Nobody wanted to pay shipping from all the way on the east coast, I presume. I would put them over in the "parts for sale" section right away. Not a lot of traffic, but, it's all M/B owners! You never know. |

Maybe ask the mechanic at a local MB repair facility, they may have a "beater" car they'd use them on if the price was right, or know a customer who would be interested in them. You could take one of them to the local UPS Store and find out what shipping would cost (each), or try eBaying them, but list that they'd need to be picked up, may get someone local to buy them.

Just weigh one of them and go online. Fedex.com and UPS.com both have shipping calculators whereby you can get a shipping cost. Just punch in your zip code and a zip code in California and you will immediately get a price for the shipment. You need the weight and the dimensions of the shipping container. Figure about 15" x 15" x 7" for the wheels alone. With the tires: 25" x 25" x 7". |

Remove the tires. Sell the tires to used tire shop for $15 or put them on craigslist.
Store the wheels. Like most of us. There is a 123 out there that you don't know about that has your name on it and it might come with steel wheels.

I hope to find steel wheels and hubcaps one day. For now I just need to strip and paint the Bundts.
You're not talking large $ here, so try and save them for a future needy MB'r and make them a good deal. What goes around.........

I've got one maybe two full sets of steel rims collecting dust for those looking for a set. plus a set of 16" 15 hole (later 126 S class style) from a early 90 or 91 W129 SL.

use greyhound to ship wheels. Shipped a set of four heavy wheels from New Mexico to Washington state for $68 dollars. Only took them a day and a half to get there. Greyhound is great for wheels, bumpers, you know big odd shaped stuff that weighs a ton.

There are of course limits to this, but you know that hole that's usually in the ceiling in the hallway or one of the upstairs closets? We call it the attic. That's a good place to store large items that you can't convince yourself to toss, but that are too large to store in a normal place and stay married. I have a set of running boards, some window casing material and some "spare" factory leather seat covers. Things that I'd have to toss otherwise. Nobody will buy 3 leather seat covers. Nobody will pay to ship some running boards. It doesn't cost me anything to store them, and next time someone cuts one of my seat covers, I'm ready though.
I'm sure that I have a place to keep some bundt cake wheels Someday I'll run across a 300SD with the 15" wheels and swap them for the bundt cake wheels. (I prefer them anyway). So if I was in that position I'd keep them. I'm not that normal though It's an excuse to get one of the manual tire changers. Pull the tires, store the wheels. -Tad |

Well, it looks like there are many forum members with the same opputunity to get into the dog house (some are even running). After 34 years with my wife I think I will do a try at ebay, so I can learn the proccess, then donate the wheels and tires (to needy Benz owner in Naples, FL) if that does not meet reserve ($100 ).
I found out that each wheel with tire is 35 lbs, 24inx24inx8in and cost $36.36 to CA from FL. $56.41 for two at a time by 3 day ground, UPS total $112.82. I may look into shipping by bus line cost. I hope to, by then, also learn how to decrese the size of the jpeg file without it showing only a top left piece of the pic. The question of "extra parts" goes on.

Update on "extra parts"
To update the members on forum who also have an "extra parts" problem.
I put the "extra parts" on Ebay (first time) with a flat shipping charge of $112.82 (UPS 3 day ground from FL to CA in two 70 lbs. packs) and a reserve of $100.00 for seven days. I hope this link works http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7956156116&category=66480&sspagename=WDVW Yes, you can see that I have no idea how to link but I still have my own hair and teeth. and the "extra parts" are selling. Thank you for your good advise and support

Nice job on the listing and a good setup on the shipping.
Everybody knows in advance what they will pay. You got one bidder to go above $100. right off the bat. Now you just need one more to compete with him. |

Well luck is definitely with you. I listed my OEM wheels with really great tires in the exact same manner several months ago when I upgraded to chrome, aftermarket 16" wheels on the 300SD but all I got were several questions and no bids. Good for you!!

This may be a good time to sell Bundt wheels on Ebay.
I think I met my reserve on my simple ebay ad within hours...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7956156116&category=66480&sspagename=WDVW bacause of: a) No other Bundts for sale at the time b) Snow. My logic goes like this, Benz's hard to find bolt pattern and offset make the alloy Bundt perfect for snow tires. The trick is to give a set (at cost) shipping price and sell during snow storm.
