A lot of them must come from that neighborhood to! That street is in many ebay auctions! This guy is a scam artist, even if that is the real thing the seller would have to have replaced every rubber part on the entire car plus most of the interior to make it worth $26k. A real 33k mile car would probably have all original stuff right down to the 20 year old brake fluid and 20 year old cooling hoses! Don't forget the 20 year old tires.

A few years back my Uncle bought a mid 30's Ford dump truck from an auction. It had 15k miles on it and it was probably right, everything down to the tires was from the 30's. Naturally the body was nice but the truck still needed a complete restoration to be driven.

Cars like this are making me think... Maybe I am taking the wrong aproach at selling my car, right now all I want is $500, but really no takers, but if I ask $5,000 I bet I will sell it in now time at all...

Ebay selling 101
1)$199 maco paint job
2)roll 100k off the odo
3) clean the heck out of it
4) junkyard parts to clean up the interior
5) take many pics in front of an expensive house
6) cloudy days make paint look better
7) don't forget Armor-All is your friend!
8) write up a nice story involving an old retired guy
9) talk about how these cars last 500k miles and how this one isn't broken in
10) then go on to say how rare and special it is
11) don't forget to comment on the high mpg's any number in the low 30 range is good. Or the power and speed.

With the simple 11 step H-guy plan you too can turn a used car lot pig into a collectors dream. Just remember to dance to the bank!

Very true, for most cars on ebay. If it's any diesel they will say 500,000, some will goes as far as saying 1,000,000. In my search for a Land Cruiser, most listings will say the cars are good for 300,000, but all the diesels will say they are good for 1,000,000

A good way to check is to use Carfax to see if the mileage is confirmed by the latest titling. Anyone here have unlimited Carfax?

I've been watching this guy's cars for quite some time and he does seem to have some of the most pristine cars for sale. While I'm totally aware that odometers can be rolled back and cars can go through Maaco to have temporarily good-looking paint (at least on pictures), interiors are harder to fake and besides how do you explain this seller's excellent feedback? I wouldn't automatically dismiss this guy as a scammer. In fact I almost bought a museum-quality 83 240D from him a couple years ago.

I mentioned above, that Carfax cannot confirm the mileage on most vehicles because of reporting gaps by DMV.

The SDL is a typical example. Four years prior to purchasing it, the vehicle had 65K on the clock. When I purchased it, it had 102K on the clock. Would you conclude that this mileage is accurate? No obvious rollback, right?

Well, I subsequently found that the speedometer made a visit to "Ft. Lauderdale speedometer" about 45 days before I purchased it. The answer by this establishment: "It probably came in and was not working. This is typical of M/B speedometers of that age."

This seller clearly has immaculate vehicles available for purchase. But, there is a world of price difference between a 35K vehicle and an 90K vehicle. Even a trained eye might not be able to tell this difference by checking the vehicle carefully.

The 560 SEC looks more like it has 32K than the 300 SD does. Regardless, even if the mileage is true, I would so much rather have a 1991 Black Pearl & Grey 560 SEC than a 1983 Gold and brown 300 SD, ANYDAY!!!!

Just like you, I've been watching this guy's cars for quite some time and I've come to the conclusion that he is no scammer. His username is afterall "findgreatcars" and I made my conclusion based on the same facts as yours: his feedback is without a flaw and the interiors of his cars really do look like they were used for just a few years and then stored away as the mileages on the cars suggest. Still, I'd love to hear how he finds these cars.

My '83 300 SD has a 120 mph speedo and my Father-in-Law drove it 15 years before I got it.
