Hmmmm....what would I do with an extra $26,800

First, it would NOT be spent on this car

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6330&item=4529536629&rd=1

Besides being one of my least favorite color combos (yes, I DO understand there are those of you who will LOVE it), there are PLENTY of other superior Mercedes diesels that can be purchased for that price. I think I'd rather by a more used 300SD and have the entire vehicle redone to MY specs and pocket the extra $10,000. Also, unless this car has been maintiained by the book in terms of TIME, and NOT just mileage, I would be concerned, obviously little will have been done if it was only maintained by mileage which is what I rather suspect since he doesn't mention ANYTHING about books or records. Seems like a lot of little rubber and plastics are going to be brittle and fragile.

That color combo is so late 70's/early 80's. Nice though.

This same seller seems to find vehicles in pristine condition. Now, how many of them truly have the mileage that he typically presents: 30-75K?

These odometers can be clocked by a moron. And, it does seem to add quite a bit of value for every 10K that comes off at these levels.

Hey! Thats the color of my dad's 1983....300SD.....his his a slightly lighter interior however, and 255k miles on it........

That car in the auction also has the 120Mph speedo.....that car didn't come with that speedo....I bet it came with the 85mph one.....seems fishy.....

My dad's has a 160mph one from a V8.....but the mileage is accurate.

I still have my good o'l 85mph one.....

I am going to concur with Mr. Carlton on this one.

As a seller myself, and one who chases these cars like no one else...

I'm a bit skeptical . The seller seems to have a quantity of 20k mile cars from 20 years ago.

I could understand maybe one or two per year, but this guy has 25 year old MB's with less than 50k miles coming out of his ears..

I think that the seller is "building" these cars.

Yeah, Brian's probably right.

I actually like the color combo, but I'd take the mileage with a BIG grain of salt. Pictures are deceptive. It could be a pristine 35Kmi car... or it could be a Maaco paint job, an odometer rollback, and a really thorough detail.

Looks nearly indentical to my 82 300sd, except min has tan interior and 151k miles. Mine is very nearly that nice of condition, glad I paid $3100 instead of $26k!

It should have an 85 MPH speedo..... It seems that all the Mercedes I have driven over the years that all of the 83 models and below models had the 85 starting in 1980.

does anyone have any way to verify when MB went to a 120mph speedo?

Anyone have a technical manual with the year that MB switched from 85 to 120?

I know that ALL 1981 cars were required by the government to have a 85mph speedo (you could not show a higher speed). I seem to think that this was still the case in '83 also. Anyone know for sure?
