What's a clean 1980 300SD worth?????

I listed my no rust 1980 300SD for sale yesterday on this site. A full description of it is there but everyone that has responded wants to know, how much? I have no idea, can I get some help from anyone? I'm not looking to get all of the money I have into this car, out. I'm looking for a fair and equitable price. I don't need it and it's really in too good of shape to be just sitting. The remanufactured trans and the re built engine have to be worth something, even though there is no oil pressure. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With no oil pressure I would say probably about $2k. It will only be worth something to someone who can pull the engine and figure it out themselves.

I just sold mine

I just sold my 1980 300SD in darn good condition (between pretty good and very good) with 185K miles. Original engine and trans, but runs/drives great, looks good (repainted factory white), and had some of the typical 116 issues (ACC system, cruise control problems).

I sold it for $1500.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but a decent representation of true market value.

Sorry, but I wouldn't give more than $1000 for any car that can't be driven home under its own power. $2000 is what I just paid for the perfectly running Euro 300D with pristine interior.

People are going to be reluctant to give you $2000 for it if it doesn't have any oil pressure. I paid $2000 for my SDL with very few mechanical problems.

I saw a beautiful 1986 SDL for about $2500 once. Still kicking myself for not buying it. I was unsure of the 6cyl engine for WVO use.

me too

I have to agree w/ these prices,I know I got a great deal, but not unheard of.$1300 for My Arizona 81 300sd w/ 180,000 + mech sound, rebuilt trans,ac,cooling.I have put another $1500 in paint, wheels, audio, misc.parts & maint. All of the work done by myself excluding the spraying of the paint.I should have left it rough looking but couldn't resist. If I was to sell I would expect $2500 min %3500 max.And I would drive coast to coast w/out a worry.Good luck,Oil pressure ='s More Money

I retract my post I didn't realize how much MB you can get these days for under $2k.

I paid $900 for my rust-free California 80 300SD with a known dead tranny with 125K miles

Looks like I'll have lots of parts to sell then.

After this week if I can't even get an offer over $1000 on my car, it's worth a whole lot more parted out so that's what I'm going to do. The trans has zero miles on it so it has to be worth something. The body is clean so body parts must be worth something. The engine is new, minus a oil galley plug somewhere in the block, isn't the turbo and injector pump worth something?

Maybe I'll just let my son do what he originally wanted to do with it. Put a 400 ci chevy motor in it.

Thanks for all the honest advise.

I really think that would be a great project for you and your son to do together! I believe that is probably your best bet and then sell the engine/trans seperately.
