I'm almost certian that I read somewhere in an official MB publication that the 300td was rated to pull 1500lbs unbraked and 3000lbs braked.
In Europe it is routine for people to tow large RV's with these vehicles. Granted, the Europeans build their RV's lighter than the US does, but even so, I've seen tiny cars pulling RV's in Europe that most Americans would never think could be done. |

Barristers running rampant have scared us into being a bunch of hand-wringing alarmists. We'll be lucky to survive.
Quickest way out of this predicament is to start shooting barristers, and then maybe politicians too. RT |
I wanted to get an ML to tow stuff but the smaller one (V6) I didn't want. Besides the wife doesn't think much of towing with an MB, any MB. So, if I want to sleep well and not worry about her castrating me at night, I'd better not put a hitch on her MB. That is why she said we should get a V8 truck or SUV. Those are tow vehicles not the MB. I'd gladly trade my tow vehicle and hers in on a diesel ML, or is it the R-Class that is supposed to come out but it would have to get a few years of road test before I like it. Anyways, even if I did, I am not sure she would like to see an MB as a tow vehicle. Especially if it is her primary vehicle.

300TD tows damn good in the rain.
Back from my Houston trip. I flat towed my Jeep Wrangler ( I guess 3000-3500#)with no problems. It was raining the entire trip. I ran about 55-65 most the time. When the roads drained well and the asphalt was newer with very visible texture I was cruising at 70 with no fear. This is all with ZERO tongue weight and rain!!!!!
My biggest concern was not the weight, but that using a tow bar I will have no tongue weight and the back end might start to sway At high speeds, especially in the rain with reduced rear wheel traction. A 10% tongue weight would be a different senario. On the trip back We towed a power boat, lighter load and correct tougue weight. |
LOOK OUT!!! A word to the wise is sufficient...
Soon, I'm going to retrieve another parts car with my wagon!!! This one's a W115 so there will be some serious German iron out on the roads on the 13th of this month...the faint-of-heart may want to head for cover early.
