If so, he might be OK. Tough to say with any certainty.

Peter's right, however. The radiator should be replaced.

I'm strictly thinking about whether the housing is strong enough to withstand the force by using two fasteners. If there are two fasteners and there should be three fasteners, it's possible the extra fastener is there for the purpose of long term durability so the gasket does not fail at 90 degrees from the fasteners.

First, I'm assuming that there are three fasteners. Can anybody confirm?

Second, if it lasts over to Wal-Mart with 15psi, it will probably go to Miami and back. The gasket will eventually fail under the third (missing) fastener.

There are three fasteners. I understand that eventually the gasket will fail and that is why immediatley upon arriving i will have to extract the bolt and replace. i am just in a position at the moment without the tool. I put it on the highway today for a lil bit and the gasket seems to be holdin.

i must add that there was no gasket sealer on there when i pulled it off and that it held its seal very well without any leak. On top of which I loaded it with sealant and luckily the bolt to break was one of the two on the top. So, now i have one on the top left hand side and bottom right hand side. I am not in lala land by the way, I have been thinking about this. It is of ill judgement to make such a comment without fully understanding my circumstances, which is something i cant fully describe in a little post on a newsgroup online. Needless to say I appreciate the help.

IMHO, you can take it to Miami and back.

But, keep a careful eye on the gauge and definitely stop after one hour to see if it has started to leak after the highway run.

Good luck. Would loosening the radiator cap be an option for the trip?

Its a bit on the cool side for Florida right now, so you should be running fairly cool during your trip. Try to avoid rush-hour stop-and-go stuff.

Bring extra radiator fluid with you just in case.

Good luck!
