Any Diesel Nuts out their Know about SEC's

I have a thread going about my 1979 SLC being converted to Deisel. I am seriously considering buying an SEC with a blown engine this weekend and converting it to a 5 cyl diesel. Does anyone out thier have any idea what the differences are between a w126 sedan and a W126 coup firewall forward? subframe, mounts, hood clearance? I dont know anyone who has one, but hopfully you people do. Thanks,

Andrew

A SEC is called a w126C, I believe. It has the same motor mounts as the regular w126. No reason you could not mount a OM617 without major hassels- just a million minor hassels

and we are so happy for the statement of your spelling abilities. Perhaps you could start a MB thread on spelling, or better yet go to a spelling forum and start a MB thread!

When spelling affects a link, it's obvious and needs correction. That's all he was trying to say.

Me and my dad do know one thing about SEC's.....the fact that we want one With a nice beefy gasser under the hood. SEC's are meant for speed, I'd never put a diesel into one, just lots and lots of premium gas. Gotta feed the 5.6 liters

Tinkering makes life more enjoyable

Go for it. That's not a bad swap.

I want a 450SL with a 617 or 603 in it. I want it badly enough to actually do it.

I'm a sick man. A 450 SLD?

Although I like some diesel conversions.. I am strongly against an SEC becoming a diesel powered sloth. These cars are supposed to give off a V8 tune, and not a "takatakataka" sounding diesel noise.

I've secretly wanted to do this conversion for years. I've spotted a rough AMG SEC behind a local shop and am trying to negotiate a price. I think a 603 might make a better fit. It is certainly better to change one to diesel, restore it and put it back on the road than have it go to the crusher. Of course, I'll be adding an intercooler and turning up the pump. Then you nay saying boo boys can bring your smelly gassers and we'll see whats up.

Emissions testing could get interesting when the title paperwork says one thing and the engine another. While there may be a procedure to correct the title to match the current engine - I don't know what that would be in my state.

Hopefully you live in one of the states where the people have more freedom.

Florida has no emissions testing, no state tax, no vehicle safety inspection, just sunshine and hurricances

Im in california, and its not a problem. You just go to the DMV and show them that it is now a Diesel and they change the title to say diesel car instead of gas. Then you have not emmisions test.
