valve adjustment diagram

I don't know if this would help anyone else, but I produced this diagram to help me with valve adjustments. Print this out and check off the valves as you go.

Excellent diagram, completely idiot proof if you ask me. I saved it on my computer for use with my next adjustment.

D.Delano,

I have something similar to your diagram drawn on my garage wall I use when I'm adjusting the valves.

If you will take one more step it will be foolproof...
Get the single feeler guages the correct metric thickness.... and put red on back end of the one for exhaust...and put a dot of red paint on the engine above each exhaust valve....

I haven't color coded them, but I did find it convenient to buy the two thicknesses required as individual pieces of feeler stock. $2.30 for the .10mm, $1.60 for the .35mm (each one 1/2" x 12") from MSC.

I just bought the MB feelers from Phil, plus two handles.

I think we have the same engine. I am using the valve clearance values from the FSM.

I was told the same thing by a mechanic who is very experienced with MB diesels. It's the wear-into-tune philosophy.
