Identify these CV shafts!

One of my Carquest CV shafts started leaking grease at the metal-to-metal crimp union on the wheel bearing end. They ordered me a new shaft and it looked totally different to the ones in the car. In the interest of keeping symmetry and not knowing if dissimilar shafts would affect anything I replaced them both, lifetime warranty, no issues. Heres a pic. Is this the difference between homokinetic and annular? Which is which? RT

Am I the only one who noticed the length difference? Does the bottom one expand at the CV joints? Usually there is some slip there, but I'd expect their relaxed state to be equal.

the one at the top looks like a carbon copy of my rebuilt car quest shafts. how may miles did you get out of it as it looks like mine are rusting out at about the same rate as yours were.

84300DT,
I had about 35K on those axles. I was planning on some Rustoleum satin black spray bomb but thats a moot point now. I would think it a long while before rust is a problem. Dunno why the leak occured and it was in a strange place. I think maybe the crimping machine was set too lightly that day? The difference in length is just the slack in the CV's. They had the same max/min lengths. RT

German engineering permits full interchangeability between both types of CV assemblies - homokinetic and annular.
