Non-turbo OM606, how efficient and clean is it?>

I was just over at dieselforum.org. It got me thinking about efficiency, fuel economy and emission levels.

Lets talk about the emissions, how does the OM606 compare to the new direct injection technology, lets say how much cleaner is the CDI OM646 versus the IDI OM606 ?
