Any difference in 77 and 78 diesels?

I have a 1978 300 SD and want to know if I purchased a 1977 300D, would the engine and tranny parts be interchangable? Thanks for your help.

Well, yes and no. The engine from the 300D will probably fit, but it is not turbocharged and your 300SD is. And you can't simply hang a turbo on a non-turbo engine. That will blow it up in short order. I'm not sure about the transmission.

The engine mounts are also different, the shocks for the sd are mounted on the mounts themselves instead of on that little bar. You should be able to unbolt them from the blocks and switch though. I have never tried.

Thanks. I was thinking of buying it for a parts car, it has some things that I might need, but after doing some research, theres not much interchangeable except for some mechanical items. Think I'll keep looking.
