300sd forward gears won't work

My 83 300sd just quit working in any forward gears but i can back up, it happen with the wife just driving out the drive way.
Is this the b2 pistion i have read about?
If i revup the engine it will move forward slowly.
I have been searching the site and gotten the b2 information.
I checked fluid it is full ,smells good and is amsoil.
So what do all of you think?
Bill

Yep you guessed it.. the B(itch)2 piston.. Let's see..... It might move forward a little in D but will growl alot when doing so, (do not keep doing that!) and your car has has 230-250k miles on it.. Am I close? Welcome to the club..

Well i guess i"m not as lucky only 160000 miles looks like trying to block up the car while lying on gravel to work on it. One of these days i am going to pour some cement and get me a lift, i guess i have a hard time choosing between fishing in the pacific or spending money on a project to make it easy to work on my cars.
Astroman go any pointers on the b2 pistion that you found when you replaced it?
Bill

Recent success from another member:

B2 Piston Replacement SUCCESS W123

I'm on gravel also, and keep large cardboard box pieces to lay on. Makes a big difference. Good Luck!

Hey Bill
Do a search and read all the B2 threads and follow the links. There is a ton of good advice and as far as I know, no one who has attempted it has failed. With a transmission that young, you'll get another 100k easily after doing the B2. Make sure and do the upgraded B2 bushing and the K1 accumulator spring upgrade at the same time. Don't worry, you'll learn in short order what these are as you do the search here.
Here's another link to get you started too.....

Yea P.E. i checked the fluid it's full ,going to call fastlane and talk to phil this week and get the parts on the way. Don"t have a lift but i do own a fork lift so i think i will lift up the front and back with it and block i up really good.
Just got done putting a steering gear box and short shaft in my f250 it was leaking power steerting fliud and had to much play, boy was that a job $185.00 plus $40.00 for the short shaft from the gear box to the steering wheel.
With owning 3 mercedes, a f250, a dodge cummmings, ford backhoe and two massey ferguson there is all ways something that needs fixing.
Bill

There is supposedly enough room in the SD to do this without lowering the trans. Just put the car up on jackstands. It may help to wedge a block of wood between the tunnel and the trans to get more room to work.

This is an up date took the B2 cylinder out and it was broken had a hard time getting the back part out it was jammed with a little tapp it came unstuck then i was able to remove it.I found it easer to drop the trans. down by removing the 4 bolts on the trans bracket placing a jack under it and lowering it you have more room to see the b2 as well as work on removing the seal and metal bushing. There was a thread on the b2 where some one took a 1/4 inch bolt and 2 fender washer that were ground in the shape of an oval so they would just drop in behind the seal and bushing, then with a strong flat pieace of metal with a hole drilled in center and a nut you have a great little puller. This was a must have. The other must have was a bolt, nut, washer and a pieace of 1/2 inch copper pipe which made a pusher to remove the lock ring on the b2. Got this from mbz.org check out the write up on the b2 there's alot of good info
Well hope this helps some one ,the car is running great thanks all who helped and everyone who has posted on this subject theres a lot of information in the search mode on this site. Also this was on a 83 300sd

good going Bill. Sounds like you made a rig similar to the one I made for pulling the bushing. I had my trans out when I did it, but made it with the intent of being usable with the trans in, although of course I never tried it. I assume it works, like you said, that's good to know. Any problems with clearance on the way?
