Tranny Tailhousing removal
I was wanting to know how to go about removing the tailhousing from a MB diesel tranny(auto). I am trying to swap the tailhousing from a trans with a cable speedo with one that has an electronic speedo. If any of you fellows have ever done this procedure before could you give me some pointers.
Tailhousing from an SD onto a tranny from a 300D. How? Kevin |

82-300td (a member here) attempted this about a year ago. He was unsuccessful because he never could get the spud nut removed from the output flange on the SD's auto tranny.
It apparently doesn't use the same 30mm nut as was used on the output flange of the flavor of 722 (cable drive speedo out of an '85 300TD) that I donated to him. You might ping 82-300td and see whatever became of that project.

No luck. I still have all the tailhousing parts and the 30MM socket.
It didn't have a 30mm nut like Randy's had but a kind of "pinchbolt" or friction nut (I don't really know how to describe it.) You should do a search, I posted some pictures in a thread but I cant seem to find them anymore. |
