Will a W116 motor drop pleasantly into a W123 chassis?
 

And is it as good an engine?
Why did they put turbos on those W116s in '79, and wait till '81 for the W123s?

That is the first time Pleasantly has ever been used in this context..

I had 617 turbo motor from a 123 car put into a 116 SD. Was dont by an indy, said it bolted right up.

Figure it would be the same the other way around?

I'm not sure, but you might run into problems with the adjuster for shift points, it's a Bowden cable on later models and a lever and rod combo on the early ones ( I think). But if your interested I've got a great running engine from an '83 SD that should drop right in....I'm in Santa Barbara.... :rolleyes:


P.s. I think they waited on the turbos because the early 123 was the economy model of the lineup, but eventually people demanded higher performance...

I use the word "pleasantly" as in I am not ripping my hair out, throwing tools around, and screaming bloody murder! :rolleyes3

I have never seen one of those deals... unless the car and donor were exactly the same in every respect...
And given how over engineered things like the driveshaft on these cars are... with changes even during the same model's life... I can't imagine it being Pleasant....

A '79 SD is an "S" class and was an upscale car. A 123 is a mid-sized sedan and isn't really much of a luxury car by the standards. The w116 cost more; you get what you pay for...

You'd prefer a 116 engine since they didn't have the EGR crap, etc.
