chrome fender trim, what do you think?

In the past I can see where there was rust and the PO just sanded then used a black paint on a dark gray car. Also, in the LR there is a 1-2" sqaured area where the paint has flaked off because of rust underneath. I wanted to sand this then POR-15 it. I also thought I'd paint the "flare" part of the fenders with POR-15 that way no rust would start underneath. I'd also coat the insides of the fenders to keep them from rusting or stop rust that might have started. Could someone post a pic of their 126 with chrome fender trim? Also, what's involved in installation?

Thanks
David

Lance, it said invalid link. Did you install the chrome yourself or did it come with the car? Any reflections looking back?

Thanks
David

Although I'm not a big fan of chrome, I was thinking about putting those on to cover my "beat up" edges. Where do you order these?

I've seen them on ebay for around $55.

Thanks

Have never put on a set but believe just attached by drilling and inserting small screws through the under lip area. So pretty easy I believe. Do not know if they are still made as they once where. One type was chrome plated and the other type polished stainless steel. Cheapest price I have seen was on ebay as well. Only change I might make would be to glue rubber isolation strip that comes with them to fender flange to stop any retention of moisture between rubber and body metal. Moisture will still escape between rubber and flare metal.

My 300D has em. I eventually will have the 300D repainted, and I'll have those things taken off, and the holes from the drilling filled and rustproofed.

I would like to paint my SDL too but I have a couple surface rust area that I'd need to sand down in order to paint and I wouldn't have the time to strip myself. I'd like to at least sand down the rust and put the POR-15 metal prep on before if would be painted. Would it look too bad if I did that? I guess the metal would be a little lower where the rust was but I wouldn't want to repaint over rust. I will call MAACO soon and see what I can have done.

Thanks
David

My honest opinion is that those chrome fender trims are of the same mentality as "fart can" mufflers, Type-R stickers, and all that phoney AMG regalia.

It's fine for the young, urban, hip, backwards-hat-wearing Dodge Neon crowd that doesn't know any better, but IMHO it just doesn't look good on a classic MB.

I haven't any choice; my 300CD has them and I have to keep them. They are FACTORY with the chrome wheels as an "appearance package". They are stainless, with a rubber menbrane lining.

I never knew MB offered them as factory equipment. I always thought they were aftermarket. I learned something today!
