Unknown missing wagon part
This probably won't be a difficult part to identify for you, I am new to MB, and I have and 82 wagon, that has a missing part on the hatch. On the interior of the hatch there is a circle in the middle of the carpeted area that is missing a part. I can see through the carpet and see the metal underneath. I assume the missing part is a latch to open the hatch from inside. Would I be correct, or is it something different.
Thanks |

Yup, there is a latch in the center, surrounded by a semi concave dish shaped cover that is plastic to match the interior color scheme. I also have the same items missing off one of my wagons. If you find a motherload of 123 hatchback parts, please let me know too!

I'm actually missing the same hatch part. I think its two pieces, a plastic center dish, and a plastic latch that attaches to the metal tab you can see. If you are in the car and pull up on the tab it opens the hatch. You can still open it from the inside, it's just not as pretty.
I think that part must have been very weak, or in very high demand, because it seems like almost no wagons have it, and I even own two hatches! If anyone finds a cheap source, let us know. peace, sam

More often than not kids get stuck in the third seat and as a result the hatch lever gets uniquely heavy wear and tear. Mine isn't broken but it probably should be from my kids playing with it with their feet over the past ten years. They're finally old enough now to realize that a great way to get the old man PO'd is to break something on one of his cars. The kid wear has now diminished. My guess is that the inside release is seldom broken in cars without the third seat.

Is there a correlation with the missing latch/cover and a thrid row seat?
Just curious. I have no third row seat, and I can't imagine it really ever being used in my car.
