Could It Be....

when i'm driving at the speed of about 65 i feel a small shake in the front. could it be that my tires need to be balanced?
i need an alignment?
or my rods gone bad?

Would be a good idea to check everything....but how long has it been since tires were rotated?

Rotate and balance first.

Well you could have lost a weight when you nailed a pothole.....believe me its happened to me a few times. Or you can get weird wear patterns from not rotating tires.....which I will admit are more pronounced on front wheel drive cars. But it always pays to check your car over well at least once a year....look for worn tie rod ends etc.....your inspector doesn't always catch things like that.

AHHHHH potholes.
ya know, i never thought of that but now that i remember i hit a pothole a couple o times recently. and i always come across those steel plates they use to cover large holes in the road.

lets say i did lose a weight, about how much should i expect to pay. i just spoke with a mechanic about balancing and he says they charge $45 (i think i'm gonna start from there).

On another note, could this problem be more serious than balance and rotate or USUALLY this is the problem for this type of situation?

That varies greatly depending on where you live.....around me in fairfax county VA it averages about $25 per wheel.......But in Prince william county about 25 niles away I can get it done for $15 per wheel.

Depending on the weight size it took to balance the wheel originally it might be a slight or a very noticible vibration.

Tie rod ends being sloppy will give a good vibration too. A good reason to check them well. Or even wheel bearing going bad.

If your tires happen to be put on by Les-Schwab or such a place, they may very well have the offer where you come back and get free rotations and balancing as long as they are still their tires.
You pay the intial balancing fee at many places and then they will balance them for the life of the tire..

Atleast that is the way it is around here.
I throw wheel weights like soot out my exhaust...

Take another set of wheels and tires off of someone elses mercedes. Drive them like you stole them. If the shakes gone so is the problem. What really attracted my attention was the cost quotes for dynamic balancing. Average cost here is 6.00 per wheel and thats only about 4.50 american. Have been noticing a few extreme price differences since joining the site but at least they favour my location sometimes. To keep the equation fair though I pay about 3.25 usd for an american gallon of diesel here. I just cannot win.

everyone is right, balance and rotate first (i'm thankful we got one at the shop otherwise I'd be poor)

could also be:
bent rim
steering shock
control arm bushings

Bent rims are common and cause this.
