High pitched squeak, parking brake pedal mushy - stuck parking brake?
Hello,
I noticed while driving to work this morning that there is a high pitched sound coming from the car when driving at low speeds, below 15MPH. Not sure if it's coming from the front or back, I'll have to go back out and take a closer look/listen in a little while. I also noticed that the parking brake pedal is very mushy, it's a lot easier to push down than it usually is. Is it likely that part of the parking brake assembly came loose, and now they're stuck on all the time? I had the rear brakes (rotors and calipers) replaced by my local indy recently, he usually does good work but it's possible that the parking brake was incorrectly adjusted, or maybe just came apart due to old age and cold weather. Any ideas? Thanks, Nate

Mine also sqeaks like that from the right rear wheel, where I already knew the parking brakes didn't work/the shoes were shot. Only my right rear wheel has parking brakes. At some point I'll be getting it taken care of, but I probably use my parking brake once every few months anyways, so its not too urgent. First thing on my list is the brake flex lines and a fluid change, then the dealer gets to do the oil cooler lines and motor mounts.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It looks like it may have just been some ice stuck in the parking brake assembly... I did a few laps around the parking lot earlier, at first it was sticking again, but after engaging and disengaging the brake a few times, the noise seems to have gone away. The pedal feels firm again as well. I took a short trip across town, and had no further problems. I've had a lot of work done back there in the past few months... axles, shocks, brakes... so it's also possible that the parking brake just needs to be readjusted. I have an appointment to have it checked out on Monday, so I guess we'll see! Since the car has a manual transmission, the parking brake is very necessary. Motor mounts were one of the first things I replaced when I got my 240D almost a year ago, and what a difference! Your engine will feel and sound much smoother at idle. Nate
