617 horsepower differences
Almost all the 617 motors I've seen are rated at 120 horsepower, but the one in my 1978 300SD is rated at 110. I'm planning to use the motor out of it to power my land cruiser, but it's a heavier vehicle than the 300SD and I'll need all the help I can get in the power department. Anyone know what accounts for the difference in power output between the '78 617 and subsequent ones? Thanks in advance for any insight.

The turbo & camshaft were the biggest differences.
AS course that trans couldn't really take the torque & HP that the 1981 & later engines had as well!
