1981 Mercedes 240D - $500 DC area.

Might be a good one. If I wasn't up to my elbows in MBs and Volvos, I'd look at it. Looks like he'd take less...

For sale is a 1981 Mercedes Benz 240D. This car is not far removed from being a daily driver, upkeep began to surpass my mechanical knowledge, so I bought a newer car. Only real issues are fuel/radiator leaks that should be easy to fix with proper tools (I dont have) Speedometer doesnt work, but I've been told that is also an easy fix. DC mechanics cost far too much for me to continue to visit them. My dad is a mechanic and until the last 2 years he maintained things very well. Oil has been changed every 3000 miles. Close to 200,000 miles on this car. These cars often last 750,000 miles. Definitely a car that needs some work, but like I said until 2 weeks ago I had driven it 30 miles/day for 2 straight years with no trouble, only minor mechanical problems. Listed at $500, but open for other bids.

Oh, yeah, 750,000 miles...why not?
I always thought 500,000 was lowballing it anyways...

Looks like it burns a quart of oil every 1000 - 1500 miles. He says its easy to start when cold with the new glow plugs he put in. No service history. I think I'll try and take a look later this week. I could part it out minus the engine for $500 bucks. Anyone need a manual transmission?

Thats what I would want it for, the manual transmission setup....but I have no space left in my driveway for it...

Did anyone here get the car? The ad has apparently been pulled.
