123 Thermostat ) rings

I bought a thermostat yesterday. It came with 2 O rings. One is the fat one with the tab on top (G4030-47923) that's listed for $2.06 on the web site. The other one is just a plain O ring. I know the fat O ring goes on the thermostat, but what about the other O ring. Where does it go?
Also, do you guys test the thermostat in hot water prior to installation?
Thanks.
David

If you are under 21, that extra ring goes in your nose

I've never seen the extra o-ring, just the ring with the slot. YES always test a new thermostat BEFORE you install it. The good thing is that the thermostat is new and clean and your wife won't yell at you for making a mess on the stove.

What brand did you buy?

What engine do you have ?
What year is it ?
Do a search for thermostat using my name as poster... should be pictures of the setup which may clear things up...
Your thermo may have two different opening temperatures... check for both...
Many have gotten home with one which did not work properly... so always a good idea to check it first...

Only one seal is required. Use the one that fits and disregard the other. The plain o-ring is for a different application. That thermostat fits a number of engines; not all use the same seal.
