What would you pay for a 2.47 rear end?

The recent threads about changing differentials has inspired me to look around for a 2.47 to put into my '83 300SD. What is a reasonable price for a used unit? Mercedes are hard to find in my local junkyards (upstate NY), but I was able to locate one out of a 420SEL for $350.00. Cheaper than ADSIT ($500), and no shipping. What do you think?

Dude I'll send you 5 for that price if you can convince my wife to let me be gone that long on the weekend.
Seriously, I'll send one to you for $250 including shipping from the yards here, as long as I can find reasonable shipping.

I'd also be interested in getting my hands on one of these, as once my CV boots fail(probably less than a year) I'll be inclined to swap diff's right along with the joints/axles. I would also need to install the speedo from a 560 car wouldn't I? I'd like to retain an accurate speedo/odo if I end up doing a conversion on mine at some point....

Thanks MTUPower, If I can't get the yard owner down to a more reasonable price I will be in touch.

Not to rub salt in but I just got a 2.88 diff off Ebay for $66.00 Picked it up in FLA while I was on vacation so dodged the shipping too. If you are willing to wait diffs show up periodically on Ebay and usually go for less than $100. RT

Try to negotiate buying the matching speedo at the same time. If it's a salvage yard you are buying from let them know that they can have your diesel speedo in exchange.

Don't I wish that was the case Bill. I think it was payback for getting one of these rare diffs so cheap, something had to go wrong! (Actually the diffs are quite light in relative terms, maybe 60-70lbs) RT
