Your 'stupid tech' should be getting you an engine.

Tell your stupid tech to head over to the closest MB dealer and get you a new engine. They run about $13k and MB can ship you one real fast. Metric Motors does good rebuilds also.

I would take the guy to small claims court unless he coughs up money to replace it.

Okay, stupid question time. What exactly is block sealer? I have been around mechanics all my life and have never heard of such a thing.

I have only heard of that ceramic stuff for coolant called "block sealer"- if he used that, he needs to be drawn and quartered...

Its for sealing leaky freeze plugs ans other water jacket pourosity issues....Still it takes a real mental midget to pour it into the oil.

Ohhh, I get it. Stop-Leak type stuff, huh? Worked great to stop a small seep in the radiator I use to heat my garage, but I sure wouldn't put it in my car (coolant or oil for that matter).

It's called "liquid glass". Sodium silicate. I've seen it plug cracked blocks in the big rigs but you better know what you're doing to use it properly. It solidifies when air hits it. Leave it in and it will happily plug your entire cooling system.

He used it in the crankcase, eh?

If he has insurance at all they will probably not indemnify him unless he claims he added it thinking it was something else.

Try your best to make him pay!

I say to try to make him pay for it!

Then, if he acts even more stupid and tries to deny he did it... sue the living crap out of him!!!! (Just enough to pay for engine, he probably has a family to take care of....)

Sealing cracks in desperation.

Up here trade name is water glass avaiable through drug stores cheap. Auto supply houses usually sell it as block crack sealer but amount is too small from jobbers in my opinion to work well. Suspect it might have became famous from used car dealers using it. Really though it's specific application was for leaky hot water boilers I believe. The two engines that I have removed heads from that had it are easy to identify as looks like a coat of hard glass over the cast water passage surfaces.. Strange but have heard of cases where it actually works for a long period of time. In fact if you are going to scrap an engine for known suspect cracks what do you have to loose? Know people that swear by it although thank goodness never had to use it myself. We all make misteaks but for the life of me cannot visulise anyone putting it in the oil. If mechanic had enough knowledge to know it existed I cannot believe he did not put it in coolant system. Another concern of mine was the thermally increased isolation from coolant to cast iron but never heard of that specific problem arising. Do not know if it's as effective on aluminium as cast iron. Like an old wifes tale but known to work well. As a last desparate cure for the 603 head? I seriously doubt it, too bad. But who knows? Cannot but notice the mention of litagation in your country. It is somewhat discouraged in canada but used as a threat from time to time. The only time I nearly landed up in the soup was when a group of young ladies wanted compensation for me stealing their hearts. But that was long ago.
