Smile valve adjust

Getting ready to do the valve adjustment on my 81 D engine. Have bought the wrenches to do the bending/grinding in preparation. would like to know in advance which way to turn the locknut to unlock the acorn nut.
If my understanding is correct I have to hold the acorn nut from turning and loosen the locknut. Looking down from the top will I turn it CW or CCW to loosen? This is my first attempt so bear with me for dumb question. Thanks in advance for your response(s). Willie (Poor Soul)

CW, if you hold the acorn nut and turn the locking nut. May the force be with you...

To "unlock" the nuts, you want to hold the acorn stationary and screw the lock nut towards the engine. Looking down, that would be clockwise.
