"Its kind of nice to hear the "last chapter", Did you get it going, or not?"--Stevo

People often come back when they get it fixed or figure it out BUT start a NEW thread... this really messes up " the last chapter".... they should find the orginal thread and put the ending there... So people in the future can put the symptoms together with the fix required.

I don't expect anything in return if I help someone. I do however agree that a thread needs to be taken from the start to the end. Sady's thread is a perfect example of this. Complete threads will help people who dig them up in the archives.

Larry Bible summed it up in a way I could not have.
Courtesy is dead IMO but we do have a great bunch here none the less.
Best put is I would like to know the conclusion of whatever it was I was PM'ed about. I got too many PM's from people out there that I know I gave good advice to and never heard back from again. It was a feeling I got used. Sure, I would have liked to know if it didn't work either. I know I appreciate the time spent when someone spends the time to personally help me.
It's too bad there are people out there that think courtesy is an out moded thing.

I'm thinking that often it is a small number of people that will be discourteous, but sadly that is a larger impression left than the majority who do act with courtesy. I for one do not believe that courtesy is dead. However, there will always be rude folks out there.
Not many here, though.

A more than simple THANKS! This is great forum with very generous members. You've provided me with very prompt, professional, and much needed information.

Unfortunately, many times the thanks is implied with the asking. But for those of you who need to be told you are a great help: "You are a great help".

Thanks to MShop, I went and bought a 300SD about 60,000 miles ago and then a 420SEL about 30,000 miles ago. I probably would have bought new Benzes if all this knowledge wasn't available to me. Saved me many tens of thousands of dollars!!! Maybe more.
Thanks!!!

I did not mean to imply that courtesy is dead. It is just not near as common as it used to be in the general public.

I took lieutuvaia's comment to relate to private messages or emails asking for help. As someone said in this thread, when a question is asked in the general forums a thank you is implied, at least to some extent.

I have gotten alot of private emails from people I've never heard of before asking for help, and then I never, ever hear from them again. Those are the ones that seem rude to me. For regular members here, a specific thanks is not necessary for me because it is all a give and take. I am able to answer questions sometimes for others and lots of people answer questions for me. In the long run I have gotten more help than I have given.

Have a great day,

I agree wholeheartedly, it is so important to acknowledge the efforts of our mentors. I sure hope I have not absentmindedly spaced out on appreciation, it truly is a great thing we have here...

In response to Larry's comments:

My wife, Ieta, and I were stationed in Germany from '55 to '58. We used to remark to each other about the discourtesy shown by those folks in Darmstadt(not to us but to one another). No one would hold a door open for others, people crowded ahead of others in lines to board trains/streetcars, etc.
We noticed that folks never seemed to discipline/teach children. We thought that, some day, we would have the same thing happen here.

We went to Tripoli in '60-'63. Noticed that no one disciplined/taught their children. We talked about the probability that, some day, this would be the practice in our country.

Now we are worried about people blowing themselves up and taking a lot of innocent folks with them....

Was it Pogo that said "We have met the enemy and he are us"?

I was only talking about PM's and emails

Please don't misunderstand me. It was the PM's and private emails I was referring to and not the threads themselves. It's when someone personally asks me through PM or private email about something and then I never hear back from them after I take the time to help out with a photo or something, then I get PO'ed.
I don't really expect any thanks or even acknowledgment in the threads as it was said the thanks is usually implied. I don't mind chiming in on threads and adding my 2 cents to something or starting a thread that may be of help to someone. In that way I feel "I can pay it forward".
