'85 300SD - let's talk about vac door locks!
Okay, here's the scoop...
My vac system works for the most part. I can lock and unlock all from the passanger side of the vehicle no problem... truck, fuel door, etc, etc. BUT when I go to the drivers side of the vehicle I can only unlock that door. Nothing else will unlock or lock. Anyone have clues as to what could be amiss? I don't think my vac diaphragm is the problem as the driver door locks and unlocks from the passanger side. I'm pretty lost here...

Check the switch in the driver door assembly that signals the vacuum pump to lock or unlock.
An 85 probably has a separate switch to enable/disable the alarm. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

That won't be a problem if I know what to look for. My vehicle does have factory alarm too... but it's currently unplugged down in the floor pan. So ya think I have some bad wiring or a loose connection?

Check the blue wire into the vacuum pump. It should see +12V when the key is turned to unlock and ground when the key is turned to lock. You can compare to the green wire which gets the same signals from the passenger side. If there are no such signals, check the switch in the driver door. I haven't been in there myself but start by pulling off the interior door panel. Somewhere near the vacuum actuator there will be a swtich assembly with 3 wires attached to it. The red wire with black stripe gets a constant +12V, the brown wire gets a constant ground, and the blue wire sends a momentary +12V or ground signal to the central locking pump depending on the position of the key. I suppose you can diagnose this outside of the door but I don't know how the wires are laid in the harness.
Oh, the alarm shares a switch with the central locking system. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

Wait - so my alarm has to be hooked up for this to function properly?
I plugged in the alarm one night and went off, just about 1am or so if I recall hahaha, and if I do have to plug it back in... how do I set the alarm to function also?

No, there's a parallel signal to the alarm.

Ah okay, so it's something within the door.
