In Germany you have to go to a proper school to get your license, it costs about $2k and you have to be at least 18.
They also use camra's on overpasses to catch tailgaters, and fines very depending on income. If you are a left lane bandit on the autobahn you die! Weeds out the stupid ones real fast. Sounds like a pretty good system. We need less cars on the roads anyway license should be more expensive and harder to get.

I don't like fascist tools like hiway cameras , on star and transponders that record your every moment. I carry an aluminum foil pouch to contain my ezpass transponder all the time (except for toll plazas).
Regarding the maniacs on the road, they tend to weed themselves out. While I was commuting, last year, this jackass in a Ford P/U used to take off around a line of cars in an acceleration ramp on the FL Turnpike. This lasted about a month until he collided into a semi and was helo'd away. I believe he is no longer on this earth. I saw variants of this phenomena several times during my 15 years of Florida commuting. Having lived in Florida now for 15 years, and in major metro areas for all my driving career, I believe there is nothing you can do to keep people from making mistakes and just driving badly/aggressively. Germany has steep fines and regorous training, but most Germans also take pride in their driving skills. Can't say that about a guy reading the paper or a gal putting on makeup at 70 mph! Best you can do is keep a defensively well designed vehicle like a Benz ( Ilove my 6 airbags and suspension). And I don't drive an SUV or P/U. Saw several of them roll on the FL Trk. The bigger they are the better they roll! |

I know, I know... I'm just adding to the AQMD's bureaucratic log jam. (Hmm.. two birds, eh?) But while I'm seething behind the wheel of my pokey wagon, I just take a moment to imagine what the a-hole's day will be like when they have to visit the smog check station... I've also been known to dial 911 for the truly egregious violators. Driving on the shoulder, weaving, dangerous lane changes. Just make the call, the CHP would love to hear from you. |

I kinda like that saying,,,we don't own the roads, we just use them. If you want to own your road, then you can own all two feet of your tax dollars worth. |
