Brake Question
My 1982 240D sat out in the snow while I went south this winter and when I returned the other day it started right up no problem, however the front brakes were seized. I managed to rock the car forward and backward to unseize them but the rotors and pads look like they should be replaced.
Any pitfalls or special instructions in doing the replacement? Also is it necessary to change the self-locking nuts on the rotors? Thanks for any replies, Tom |

If they were siezed, I would bet the calipers have corrosion and need replacing also.

I believe the fact that you can replace the pads without removing the calipers is a cause for concern. You should always check the calipers. Make sure they float right and aren't seized. They should always be cleaned with lots of brake cleaner regardless. Go to the dollar store and get some aluminum pans, put one under the caliper and spray away! Danny

Your pads corroded onto the rotors. If the brake can self-wipe themselves smooth, you're okay, otherwise you may need to have your rotors turned if they pulsate too much.

Just drive it. Take it around the block a few times and see if it gets any better. After a couple of times around the block and they still feel like they are binding, then replace them.
